Cookie Monster

Posted by Dee under Socks, Summer of Socks

Vegas Wedding CakeOne of Jason’s old school friends got married in Las Vegas last autumn, unfortunately we couldn’t attend the wedding – but they had a Wedding Reception for their family and friends this weekend in Cambridge.

The reception was in The Old Library of Trinity Hall, which was an amazing venue – whilst we had welcome drinks in the courtyard we watched all the punters – waiting for one to fall in! Their wedding cake was Vegas themed and so obviously we loved it!

PuntingHaving watched the punting, we had to take part and after dinner, we had our little adventure (although Jason didn’t join in). having no idea about punting I ventured into a boat with some guests from America – which was the right choice as we were in the only boat with wine! Whilst enjoying the sites of Cambridge we discussed amongst other things our favourite Family Guy Quotes, mine being the whole Cookie Monster Addiction scene.

Pomatomus   Pomatomus ECU

Last night, whilst at home suddenly realised that like my favourite blue monster that I am an addict, only I am addicted to Cookie A sock patterns and not choccy-chip treats. I cast on my Pomatomus socks last night and at around midnight I realised I had completed the ribbing and almost on repeat of the pattern (about 20 lines), I think I am hooked on the pattern.

Life Hacks

Posted by Dee under General

I am trying to organise my life at the moment  this year has been a little chaotic and I have a few things on the horizon that require me to be more organised. I am starting with a little time management (I have been using numerous buzz words lately) my newest thing is Life Hacks! Unfortunately, a major part of this is trying to spend less time online this means writing less in my blog, commenting less on blogs and not reading forums.

Of course, like all things one plans other things get in the way  like reading The Deadly Hallows  no spoilers here! And I have recently become addicted numerous social networking sites (yes I am full of buss words today), what with my playlist on last.fm, new features to Facebook (Casting Spells and Movie Compatibility Quizzes) and lets not forget the knitters social networking website Ravelry. I uploaded all my old projects last night, joined several groups and this morning even created a group!

Shrug BackTo make matters worse, my stash is calling to me  all my recent stash enhancements are sitting in box, but every so often I hear a little cry I want to be a pair of monkey socks, I would be a lovely pair of Fetching Gloves? or autumn is coming, we will need a nice warm sweater. So instead of having one large project on the needles and a few smaller ones, I have have two major wips and my chevron scarf and all I keep thinking about is casting on some socks. I think I will cast on my Pomatomus socks on next week for Project Spectrum as I have some amazing purple yarn.

I have been devoting most my time to the Silk Shrug, it is a long slow process, I am on the back now and it is over 200 stitches per row, the pattern is really easy and I love the way it looks – but it is taking forever!

Magic Stripe Socks

Posted by Dee under Finished Projects 2007, Socks, Summer of Socks

Two Needle Socks

Yarn: Lion Brand Magic Stripes in Sea Blue.
Pattern: Generic Sock Pattern.
Needles: 3.25 mm Circulars (2 needles).
Notes:This was my first attempt at knitting socks with two circular needles, I have to say I can see the attraction – although the pattern was in stocking stitch it still knitted up so quickly, like knitting with DPN’s it takes a few rows to get use to the technique, but it then is so simple.

I used the short row heel on these socks and I am still not convinced, I prefer the heel flap technique.

Coldspring Mills

Posted by Dee under General, Stash Enhancement, Sweaters

  • Jason and I had an amazing time this weekend, unfortunately our camera decided to break – in fact in the end of the weekend we had three broken cameras.

It was such a shame, as we were surrounded by some of the most amazing countryside, our hotel was down the road from Pendle Hill, and we managed to drive through Bronte Country to Coldspring Mills.

The Wool Cellar was all I thought it would be an array of colours and yarns and a lot heavily discounted, I tried to show some restrain and steered clear of the cones on Debbie Bliss Pure Silk and Louisa Harding (in an attempt to save some money) instead I brought some, Classic AL in a Midnight Blue (all I seem to buy at the moment is blue yarn), I think I will make a simple sweater with this maybe the Hourglass Sweater.

The shop had a large selection of Araucania Yarn, as I had not seen this yarn for sale in the UK before. I was send some Patagonia Nature Cotton last year by my One Skein Pal, and it is an amazingly soft yarn, I was so pleased to see this for sale there.

I opted to buy some Araucania Pomaire in blue and green. In my haste to start knitting, I hand rolled the two skeins into balls in the hotel and I cast on a Chevron Scarf that night.

Back at home, I managed to google the problem with the camera, and after charging the battery overnight – it is now working so I can flash my new stash!

    Hedera

    Hedera Sock

Hedera HeelYarn: Natural Dye Studio Sock Yarn in Lipstick
    Pattern: Hedera.
    Needles: 2.5mm DPNs.
Notes: I alterated the pattern slightly, by adding an extra twisted knit stitch before and after the lace parts on the main part of the foot, it is lost in the stocking stitch.

I loved the row of twisted knitted stitches on the heel flap (done on the picked up stitches), it creates a beautiful effect and hides any mistakes that could have been made whilst picking up the stitches. I think I will be adopting this technique on all heel flap socks from now on.

    New Knitting Bag

Posted by Dee under General, Sweaters

All my Knit Picks yarn is calling to me – asking to be crafted into wondrous garments, I am trying to resist temptation however, the call is too strong and last night I decided to knit with the Wool of the Andes and swatched for the Central Park Hoodie. I have to admit I adored knitting with the wool – it was designed to be knitted, this swatch was knitted in no time, I am hoping the cardigan will also be as quick to knit – but I am not going to start until after I have finished the Pure Silk Shrug.

After my recent attempt to find a decent knitting bag, I discovered Cath Kidston was having a sale, for a while now I have been admiring her knitting needle case – and imagine my surprise when it was in the sale, this amazing case come complete with some bamboo needles, and of course to go with it I needed a little purse for all my knitting notions and this star oilskin purse is perfect.

But the sale didn’t stop there… I still needed a knitting bag – and there it was waiting for my the Pastel Flowers Blue Knitting Bag (which matches the needle case) – obviously now I need to get out and about and knit – the next few weeks are going to be busy for me.

This weekend we are heading up North of a Christening and as our journey is taking us near Bradford, so I am hoping to convince my hubby that I need a trip to Coldspring Mill, although I don’t this I will be very believable as my stash is growing even though I am stash busting. Still it is an excuse to trying out knitting in the car.

    Tooth (Knit) Picks

Posted by Dee under General, Stash Enhancement, Summer of Socks, Sweaters

Shrug Panel AI have spent the last few days stuck at home looking like a hamster with toothache. I am on horrid tablets, and have been warned to stay away from alcohol for the next few weeks. (I will come out in a rash :( ). Luckily hiding out in my bedroom has given me the perfect opportunity to knit! I decided to cast on my Pure Silk Shrug – originally, I started out swatching and I was going to practice the lace pattern before jumping into the actual shrug.

However, when I realized the sides only started with 18 stitches (I am making the medium size), I jumped straight in, and night and mornings worth of knitting and I am on the second side. I thought I should do the back last when I was more confident about the lace and cables.

Stupidly, I could have used this time to finish off the socks I have on the needles and then I could post some FO (I think my lack of knitting this year is embarrassing).

Still to the yarn goddess is around to cheer me up and my Knit Picks order arrived look at all the goodies. Most of this is planned for future projects, Central Park Hoodie, Fetching, Coronet and maybe a River Stole.
