Killing Time

Posted by Dee under General

SMSKAL
I forgot to post my progress on last week’s clue for the SMSKAL – I managed to complete the clue in one evening, only to notice an error on the first repeat so I ripped the shawl back and started again the next night!

Luckily, I had no mistakes on the third clue, however it did take a lot longer to knit (there are over 300 sts on the needle towards the end). The shawl still needs blocking but you can see the orange blossoms blooming all over this shawl.

As I needed a little side project to kill time in-between waiting for the clues to be published I opted for these Flower Cloths from Weekend Knitting. I brought this Peaches and Creme cotton over a year ago, I always intended on making this cloths, but never got around to it.

Twittering

Posted by Dee under General

I have noticed that my knitting friend seemed to have embraced the Web 2.0 more than their muggle counterparts. Whilst most of my non-knitting friends might be on Facebook, the web to them is a tool for contacting people and buying cheap goods. Whereas, my knitting friends all have have a black belt in google-fu, I think this is due to spending hours hunting for yarn alternatives or patterns. Obviously, they all have blogs, personal pages on Ravelry and more recently twitter accounts. To prove my point the only people I follow on Twitter that I know in the real world are all knitters!

When Alice announced earlier this month that she was hosting a knit-along on Twitter, it was more fuel for my case! Each Monday she posts a clue on her twitter feed and all the participants can tweet about their updates and post photos.

This is my swatch from last weeks clue using Malabrigo sock yarn, 3.75 and 4.5mm needles – I am going with the 4.5mm to open up the flowers.

Heart & Sole

Posted by Dee under Finished Projects 2009, General, socktopus club 2009

sockspoilerSo a few weeks ago we all awaited the arrival of our shiny silver parcels aka the Sock(topus) Sock Club! Inside was the most amazing yarn dyed by Theyarnyard I have to admit I am not a big fan of red – but I love this colour,  it reminds me of poppies (the photos don’t do it justice). Also a simple yet unusual pattern by Ysolda (I am a big fan for her beret pattern so was looking forward to this months instalment).

It took me a while to understand how this pattern was going to work as it omitted the short row for the heel, rather than ponder too much about the construction, I got out my needles and knit and knit and knit! With in no time I’d completed the sole and the heel magically appeared.

In no time I was wearing my socks! .

Beading Class

Posted by Dee under General

Over the last few months, Alice have been holding some classes in the Socktopus store, I have been ignoring most of her posts about classes. Simply because, knitting is enough of a passion for me. I have no time to learn how to spin or design (if I can get my hands on Hermonie’s timeturner I might).

When she mentioned Zsuzsanna would be running a beading class, I knew this was something I had to try! I have always been interested in jewellery making, but never really thought about giving it ago.

My First Beaded RingAfter the two hour class I was wearing home my creation!

Since then I have been buying beads online, in the stores in Covent Garden and Notting Hill. The amazing weather we have been having in London means I have hours of natural sunlight to practice the techniques we were taught, now I have a fabulous collection of rings!
