For years, I have talked about making my own clothes. I knit a lot of socks and scarves, but I never make big items to become part of a wardrobe, cardigans or sweaters. I have tons of patterns in my queue of Ravelry and have bookmarked several dress and skirt patterns to be sewn (only I don’t sew). So this Christmas tired of my moaning my mum and sister decided to buy me a sewing machine, some books and a skirt kit from Clothkits (something that has been on my dream list for years). So really I had no excuses… well one I don’t have any material!
So when Ling invited me along to go fabric shopping, I jumped at the chance. I had seen Fabrics Galore at Ally Pally last year, it was the big stand with the massive queue! But as they don’t have an online store I had no idea what to expect, but I searched my books for all the easy patterns (bunting, fabric boxes and tote bags) and put together a shopping list.
As a result, I brought a few bits of material – the blue with the pink flowers was an impulse buy, but I have decided it will make lovely napkins. The majority of the material will be used for items in our new bedroom (more on that later), so this weekend I am hoping to get my sewing machine out and finally sew something!
