Christmas Scarves

December 30th 2005
Filed under Finished Projects 2005, General

Now that Christmas is over, I can get on and post all my finished projects from the last month. All the recipients have received their gifts and those I have seen since Christmas have been wearing their scarves to beat this chill that is creeping in over London.

Branching Out

Yarn: KidSilk Haze in Liqueur and Meadow.
Pattern: Braching Out from Knitty, Spring 2005.
Needles: 3.75mm.
Notes: There is nothing to more to say about this pattern, I love it, everyone in blogland loves it and seems to be knitting it.

Fishtail Lace Scarf

 Fishtail Lace Scarf

 Fishtail Lace Scarf
Yarn: KidSilk Haze in Grace and Pearl.
Pattern: Fishtail Lace Scarf (pdf file).
Needles: 3.25mm.
Notes: KSH leans itself extremely well to any lace pattern, I opted to do some simple patterns just to save time – but it works so well (Take Airy Scarf and simple easy pattern that knits up in hours and looks so good). This is one of those easy patterns – great for a first time lace project as it really is only four stitches, K, P, YO and sl1-k2tog-psso.

Little Leaf Scarf

 Little Leaf Scarf

 Little Leaf Scarf
Yarn: KidSilk Haze in Smoke and Drab.
Pattern: Little Leaf Scarf .
Needles: 3.25mm.
Notes: Again this is another fantastically easy pattern, four simple rows repeated numerous times (I think I did over 100 repeats on this pattern). I left off the garter borders – once pressed the edges did not curl and it looked lacier without the edging.

Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf

Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf

Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf

Yarn: KidSilk Spray in Pebble and KidSilk Night in Starry Night.
Pattern: Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf .
Needles: 3.25mm and 4mm.
Notes: I love this pattern on smaller needles using variegated yarn the pattern looks amazing, using bigger needles it becomes an interesting lacy pattern.

Braching Out

Yarn: KidSilk Haze in Trance.
Pattern: Braching Out from Knitty, Spring 2005.
Needles: 3.75mm.
Notes: I don’t think there is any reason to talk about this pattern – everyone knows it is amazing (if you haven’t made this scarf to it now!), the lace is so easy and mesmerizing you learn the 10 rows so quickly, I had orginailly swatched this pattern in cotton and it looks amazing, but I love the look of the lace in KSH.

Marco ;)

NLLALM

Close UpYarn: Sirdar Pure Cotton in Navy.
Pattern: Marco from Rowan 35 in a plain colour with added cables.
Needles: 3.25mm and 3.75mm.
Notes: Where do I start… the basic pattern is that of Marco done in just one colour.
To being with I thought the 2×2 rib looked to skinny so I changed it to 3×3.

I very quickly got bored of the stocking stitch, especially, as there is on shaping to the main part of the sweater, so when I began the front, I added some cables and a wide rib.

Airy Scarf

Airy Scarf in Regal

Yarn: KidSilk Spray in Regal.
Pattern: Airy Scarf from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts
Needles: 3.75mm.
Notes: This pattern is great to get use to KSH, as the pattern is so simple.
As I dropped the needles size (a lot), I used 42 stitches instead of 22 to get the same width. I also used all the wool to make a longer scarf.

Wavy Gravy

Wavy Gravy

Yarn: Texere‘s destiny Mohair in Petrol.
Pattern: Wavy Gravy from Stitch ‘n’ Bitch Nation
Needles: 5mm.
Notes: There is not much tp say about this really – it was a simple project – I would suggest this as a second lesson knitting project as it all increases and descreases but look so effective, I can also vouch it is a great project to take to your first SnB.

Mini sweater

BoobHolder

Yarn: Jaeger Merino DK in Mocha.
Pattern: Mini Sweater by Glampyre..
Needles: 5mm.
Notes: I thought this pattern would be perfect for this time of year – something to cover up in the evening – or in the temperamental London weather. This pattern knits up as quickly and easily as the OSW.

Mini Sweater ButtonI wasn’t keen on the puffy arms like Diana I decided to ignore the extra increases in the arms. The pattern specifies increasing until around row 17 when the sleeves should meet under the arms, but I had to do a few more rows of increases for this – to compensate missing out the increases in the puffiness. However, this resulted in the main body being bigger, so instead of meeting in the middle it crossed over, I could have ripped it back to row 17 and just added the increases in the arms and not the main body (worked that bit straight), but I decided to let them cross over and added a snap fastening on the inside and the button.

Also the edge, was a little girly – like the sleeves, so I just crocheted a row of single crochets around the edge to add some texture and colour.

Maryella

Mini Maryella

Materials: DMC Perle 8 in ecru, Gutermann Size 9 Seed Beads in 1195 and black ribbon.
Pattern: MaryElla from Knitty Winter 2004.
Needles: 1.25 mm.
Notes: I thought I would start with a mini version of the cuff – using just one bead on each stitch, so it could be a quick make. The needles are awful to knit with especially at night. However, the ‘yarn’ is thin enough to use a beading needle to thread the beads which is very useful – I needed nearly 250 beads on this mini version.

Feather and Fan Scarf

Feather and Fan Scarf

Yarn: Coats Crochet thread and Rowan’s 4 ply Cotton both in Mint Green.
Pattern:Feather and Fan Scarf.
Needles: 3.25mm.
Notes: I love Feather and Fan stitch as it is so simple and yet looks to elegant. I wanted a long skinny scarf so I did the pattern over 12 stitches rather than 18 and repeated each pattern twice.

Middle of the Feather and Fan ScarfAs I had issues with having a symmetrical scarf and having a scalloped edge on both ends, I ended up knitting two scarves and grafted them together.

Both yarns were lovely to knit with and I am pleased with the over all effect, the darker wool has a shine compared to the matt look of the Rowan cotton. However, using the two yarns meant I ended up having a lot of ends to weave in.

One Skein Wonder

One Skein Wonder

Yarn: Paton’s Cotton DK in Denim.
Pattern: One Skien Wonder by Glampyre.
Needles: 5 mm and 3.75mm.
Notes: This was a lovely pattern to knit up – and completed extremely quickly.
As I was knitting it – I kept thinking of other yarns that this would work with, although the pattern called for worsted (which is thinker than DK), it still works well – I think because the cotton has great stitch definition.
It was a little weird knitting from the top down – something I hadn’t done before – but the raglan effect works really well.
This pattern does get bonus points as there is very little seaming – just the “cuffs” of the arms.

Spring Fling

Spring Fling

Yarn: Paton’s Cotton DK in Sky.
Pattern: Spring Fling from Knitty Spring 2005.
Needles: 3 mm and 3.75mm.
Notes: This was a lovely easy lace pattern – great for a beginners, and the pattern looks very affective.
I decided to knit the body section as one (I hate seaming), I cast on 200 (for the small), leaving off the 2 stitches from the back and one from each of the front. I also slipped the first stitch at the start of each row, for a neater edge – as the edge is not worked into a border.

Personally, I didn’t like the hook and eye fastening – so I made two i-cords (about 70 rows each), and attached them to the first row of the neck decreases.
