Favourite Bookstagrammers

Between the Pages Last month, I noticed several of my favourite geeky bloggers were all writing about Disney. I discovered it wasn’t a coincidence, these bloggers were all taking part in the Geek Blogs Unite theme. Which for March was the Happiest Place on Earth.

This months theme is “Between The Pages”. You can read more about Geek Blogs Unite on their blog or via the Facebook Group. With quite a wide scope to talk about, rather than write about my favourite book, or what I am now reading. Instead I thought I would focus once again on Bookstagram.

Bookstagram is a sub-community on social media, mainly on Instagram, to showcase, books and reading. The instagrammers, use props like candles, flowers or memorabilia, together with a books. Combining photography and books, bookstagram has blow up on social media. People use props or  interesting locations and to show off books on Instagram. Since I wrote about it last year, a new social media app, Litsy has started which combines bookstagrams and book reviews.

My Five Favourite Bookstagrammers
  1. Reading a books whilst enjoying a cup of coffee is the perfect combination. Bookbaristas is one of the most popular bookstagrammers, she highlights amazing coffee shops and cafe in New York City, with a mini book review included.

  2. dropandgivemenerdy creates beautiful themed flatlays, most noteworthy are the recent coloured flatlays. She is also a Brand Rep for LitJoy Crate and Charm with Me, so is a great account to follow to see unboxing photos for these subscription boxes.

  3. depepi is the queen of Funko Friday. She fills her instagram feed with cute photos Funko figures. However, she has recently started a #booksandpops series, every photos pairs a book with a figure.

100 Cups of Coffee

dreaming of Chicago
Dreaming of Chicago

When we were in our twenties, many of our vacations were to Chicago. We had friends there, taking advantage of the strong pound and there was plenty to see and do. As we were visiting friends we spent a lot of our time, catching up whilst drinking and eating! As a result, we got to know a lot of places that served great hang over food. Jamba Juice for vitamin/healthier fix or Walker Bros for pancakes. If we overslept and missed lunch then we would have sandwiches from Potbelly. Whilst Jason was working near Westfield Stratford, he discovered that Potbelly had a branch there. So we popped back to relive old memories.

Not all Christmas Cups are red

When I think about Christmas Coffees I think red cups and Gingerbread Lattes. Yet, my favourite Christmas lunch menu is from Pret a Manger. Last year, they did pretty wreath decoration cups rather than red cups. Plus they have an amazing vegetarian Christmas sandwich and cute “melted” snowman cookie.

Patronus Coffee

As a late birthday treat last November, I finally got to visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour. I should write a post about my experience there – or at least a photo post some of my favourite pictures. I took a lot of photos! It was also my first red cup of the season. After I posted the photo to Instagram. A friend pointed out, that the dear on the cup looked like Harry Potter’s Patronus.

Ice Cream in December?

One of the reason I started this challenge was to discover new coffee places in my area. The fun side of that is most coffee places also have novel desserts. Amorino, is such a place, as well as serving Italian coffee, they also have an amazing range of Italian gelato.

Red Socks, Red Queen, Red Socks

I have written about my love of Booktagram and Litsy. I couldn’t resist taking a cozy winter photo. My Christmas blanket, wooly socks, my book, and a Christmas coffee. With the illiteration of red cups, red socks and Red Queen.

6 on 6 Red

6 on 6 - Red

I am posting my final photos in the 6 on 6 series, red for December. Like my gold photos for November, these have a Christmassy theme. A lego Santa, and Starbucks red cup. I have also added an Electra Tsum Tsum. The Harley Quinn Funko, was a Halloween gift as past of the Geek Girl x Bloggers group from the Funko Queen dePepi.

The final photo in my red themed #SockSunday photo I took on Instagram. Featuring the Red Queen book, a red cup and my 2 luv crew socks I knitted years ago. These are my favourite socks that I made, that I tend not to wear them, which is why I think they don’t have holes in them.

pinspiration

Following on from my gifts for book lovers post last month, I thought I would list some of fun bookmark tutorials I found on Pinterest.

I would list my origami skill set as absolute beginner, I can manage a crane and heart, I dream of being able to make an X-wing figure,  but I think this tutorial for a cute cat bookmark/page marker, might be great for a beginner.

I have always loved Subversive Cross Stitch, their cute designs take traditional cross stitching themes and add some not so traditional ideas! I think this pattern would also look amazing in a frame on a bookshelf or in a reading nook. It’s also available PDF

Finally, I had to include a Harry Potter themed bookmark. These book-scarves are knitted using DMC pearl cotton on small needles, the great thing is the colours can be adpated for any of the houses at Hogwarts or even a Doctor Who scarf.

Book Lovers Gift Idea

My husband and I used to write a lifestyle blog together (someday I hope we will start it up again). One of series of posts we wrote about were gift guides and I loved complying these posts. Next month, both my mum and sister are celebrating their birthdays. As part of their presents I am planning on getting them Kindle vouchers but I wanted to them a little something extra. Partly inspired by some of my favourite instagrammers I put together this gift guide for Book Lovers.

Gift ideas for Book LoversLocket // Bookmarks // Candle
Colouring Book // Book Bag // Pin
Pencils // Tee // Mug

The Frostbread Candles and Happy Hello Co. Magnetic Bookmarks are available for several of fandoms so these can be tailored for gift giving. I think I might be tempted to do some themed gift baskets soon. I first saw this Librarian Tee on The Loony Logophile‘s blog, in her everyday Librarian cosplay and fell in love – isn’t it perfect! When I saw the mug on instagram, I knew I had to include it as it sums up my recent obsession!

Finally, if you want the ultimate gift for a book lover, how about treating them to a vacation in a bookstore! The Open Book in Scotland offers an airbnb rental in a bookstore where you can help run the shop during your stay.

Bookstagram

One of my goals this year was to read more and I’m always looking for inspiration for new books to read. As much as I love my kindle, I have always loved to potter in a book store and read the blurbs on the back of books, but more recently I have been using social media for ideas on what to read next. As a result my latest obsession has been looking at book photos on Instagram; I literally am judging a book by its cover.

Bookstagram has become a huge phenomenon in recent years, we live in an age where we all know that if a celebrity been seen wearing an item of clothing will cause that item to sell out in the shops and even expect celebrity endorsements on consumer goods. I recently read an article from the USA Today showing how books have become the latest trend on celebrities Instagram feeds, which is something that I love!

It might seem easier to search Goodread or Amazon from recommendations, but searching Instagram for #currentlyreading or #bookstagram, brings up thousands of photos, and can give you can insight into what’s hot at the moment. I have added several books to my “to read” shelf from Red Queen, Nowhere But Here and Rebel of the Sands.

The bibliophiles on Instagram carefully choreograph some amazing photos to show off what they are currently reading using themed candles, mugs, bookmarks or other props. As I mentioned I love my kindle, I don’t have a lot of physical books, or bookshelves filled with books, but I adore seeing other peoples – maybe when I get that larger dream home, I can have a library filled with books and a cozy reading nook.

Until then, I’ll spend my free time curled up in my bed with my kindle and attempt to post boring #socksunday photos showcasing some hand knitted socks and my plain kindle.

What are you reading at the moment? Where do you get inspiration for you next read from? Do you have a favourite bookstagram account I should be following?
