Yarn: Cascade 220 Heather – Purple Jewel.
Pattern: Fingerless Mitts.
Needles: 4.5mm
Notes: As I always seem to knit scarves as gifts, it was lovely to receive hand-knitted scarf from my sister! A simple garter pattern in chunky wool. I wanted to take it away with my this weekend, and figured I needed some simple gloves to go with it.
The fingerless mitt pattern is amazingly quick (about two hours per glove), simply constructed and I think look fabulous!

Yarn: Elsebeth Lavold Classic AL in North Sea.
Pattern: Dashing from Knitty.
Needles: 4.5 mm.
Modifications: I wanted to make smaller version of these gloves – something more like Fetching, so I adapted the pattern a lot.

I did the first cable row after 12 rows. I started the thumb opening after 9 more rows.

Then because of the shorter pattern, I had to move the thumb so the cables sat in the right place, so I knitted 5 stitches (for the left glove, and 35 for the right glove), the made the thumb opening, in the normal way.

Finally, I only knitted 12 rows after the opening.

Note: This project was finished in 2007, but I didn’t get a chance to blog about it.

In the panic of not having enough yarn to finish my Hourglass Sweater, I ordered two extra balls of Classic Al, however, they are a different dye lot and the colour difference is really noticeable, so they were destined to sit in my stash, apart for that fact that they perfectly match my new outift! As it is freezing outside I know I would need some new gloves to wear, as I cast on some Dashing Mitts. I am adapting the pattern a lot to make them shorter more like Fetching.

Yarn:Knit Picks Andean Silk in Navy.
Pattern: Fetching from Knitty Summer 2006.
Needles: 3.75mm DPN.
Notes: The write up for this pattern on Knitty calls these gloves an “instant knitting gratification” and I have to agree, I sat down over the weekend to watch a few movies and my the credits of the second movie I had a pair of fingerless gloves.

After reading some comments on Ravelry, I discovered it is adviced to knit this mitts with 3.75 needles rather than the 4mm the pattern suggests. I also added an extra set of the 4×1 rib and cable row, just to make the wrist part longer. Because of the modification, I ended up using a little over one ball of yarn for these mitts.

I had brought the Andean Silk with this project in mind, a quick check on Ravelry I found it is a popular yarn for these mitts, and I also discovered it is advised to going down a needle size.

As we had the three day weekend in the UK, why would I cast on one new project, when I could cast on two so I ordered the Gretel Beret from Ysolda, I am also making this in Andean Silk.

Of course, my knitting this weekend did include some work on the Central Park Hoodie, I have now finished the hood and all I need to do is the ribbed edging (what would be the button band without the buttons).

I am slightly concerned that all my knits are blue and feature cables – I have to admit I love the colour blue – but I think this might be a little excessive.
