Yarn: Coats Crochet thread and Rowan’s 4 ply Cotton both in Mint Green.
Pattern:Feather and Fan Scarf.
Needles: 3.25mm.
Notes: I love Feather and Fan stitch as it is so simple and yet looks to elegant. I wanted a long skinny scarf so I did the pattern over 12 stitches rather than 18 and repeated each pattern twice.

As I had issues with having a symmetrical scarf and having a scalloped edge on both ends, I ended up knitting two scarves and grafted them together.

Both yarns were lovely to knit with and I am pleased with the over all effect, the darker wool has a shine compared to the matt look of the Rowan cotton. However, using the two yarns meant I ended up having a lot of ends to weave in.

Whilst looking at Florence today, I realised, I had no idea why I was knitting it I would never wear it – as nice as it is in the magazine – it is not me. So I began the awful task of frogging it – it took ages to do the Fair Isle border and I was left with small lengths of different coloured wool.

No sooner had Florence been frogged than Spring Fling had been cast on.

I was planning on swatching Florence last night, I had to practice the Fair Isle border first and then the actual lace pattern. Normally, I use tubular cast-on with K1, P1 rib, but as this pattern needs to cast on in one colour and then do the rib in the next, I thought I would experiment a little. I cast on half the number of stitches in an odd colour – then did the first two rows on the tubular in the dark blue and then finished the tubular in the lighter blue and finished off the rib light blue. Instead of swatching, I ended up knitting the whole sleeve.

The lace pattern is pretty easy – however, the pattern is just a graph – no written instructions – so I had to write them out myself… I’m not very good at following graphs other than for colour-work.

All of a sudden I have loads of Summer Knit Projects.
After finishing my sisters Beaded Bolero, I have been asked by my Mum and Dad to knit them both something in Cotton – it’s a good job I love this wool.

My summer list is now…

• Florence from Rowan Magazine 35.
• Cotton Jumper for Dad, I’m thinking Marco also from Rowan Magazine 35 – but I’m not sure about the strips.
• Cotton Cardigan for Mum – I think this will be a simple crew neck – she just needs to pick a colour.
• I still would really love to make Alice, but I think it will be Christmas by the time I have finished all them.

I finally signed up for Secret Pal 5 – I guess I should keep updating my journal so my pal can find out what I like.

Yarn: Rowan Cotton Braid in Picasso.
Pattern: A simple drop stitch pattern in the end (one row k1, yo and one row k1, sl1).
Needles: 6 mm.
Notes:I took Metro’s advice and knotted the ends before weaving – as it was already starting to unravel.

I am really pleased with this mini project, it looks amazing in this wool – I was trying to think what else (apart from scarves) would look good in the cotton braid – and I couldn’t really think of anything.

However, there is a whole book full of patterns Cotton Braid Collection, I am still not completely convinced.

The Malibu Bag is nice, and I guess some over the cover-ups will be great on the beach – but not here in London

With Lucky finished it is time to move on to my next project… after buying Rowan 35, I have been inspired to knit tons of projects with cotton. Hopefully, I will get on to knitting something from here soon at the moment Audrey is at the top of my list.

I also recently invested in some (more) Paton’s 100% Cotton, which is a great substitute for Rowan’s Cotton Glace. These four balls of cream are ear-marked for my sister’s beaded bolero.

I’m not really following a pattern, the basic design is the bolero from Vintage Knits, but I am making it with short sleeves, and then the two front panels will have the beaded pattern from the beaded sweater (image on the left).
I convinced my sister last night to thread the beads on the wool – I hate the tricky jobs… she used the clear nail vanish tip from SnBN which worked a treat
