Twittering

Posted by Dee under General

I have noticed that my knitting friend seemed to have embraced the Web 2.0 more than their muggle counterparts. Whilst most of my non-knitting friends might be on Facebook, the web to them is a tool for contacting people and buying cheap goods. Whereas, my knitting friends all have have a black belt in google-fu, I think this is due to spending hours hunting for yarn alternatives or patterns. Obviously, they all have blogs, personal pages on Ravelry and more recently twitter accounts. To prove my point the only people I follow on Twitter that I know in the real world are all knitters!

When Alice announced earlier this month that she was hosting a knit-along on Twitter, it was more fuel for my case! Each Monday she posts a clue on her twitter feed and all the participants can tweet about their updates and post photos.

This is my swatch from last weeks clue using Malabrigo sock yarn, 3.75 and 4.5mm needles – I am going with the 4.5mm to open up the flowers.

Viral

Posted by Dee under General

There seems to be a disease sweeping across Ravelry… it has become viral… knitters are admitting they follow the crowd! I am ashamed to admit of the top ten most popular projects on Ravelry I have made four of them (Clapotis is blocking as I type), I am planning on making another four… I guess this makes me a knitting follower.

Of course my next project had to be something viral – this beautiful pattern is just outside the top 20 (but I think it is slowly going to move up)… Introducing The Swallowtail Shawl!

I am following Minty from Pepperknit modifications to increase the size of the shawl… so far I have completed 19 repeats of the budding lace chart and I think I add another 5 more repeats to make it even larger!

Knit by Nanas

Clapotis

My sister comment last night that my Clapotis looks like a giant Shreddie (which we all know are knitted by nanas), as I still haven’t worked out how to say Clapotis this is now the Shreddie’s Shawl!

I am not sure why is has taken me so long to get around to knitting this pattern, about 95% of it is basic stocking stitch so it can be knitted whilst watching T.V. From what I have read it is easy to knit one in a week or less (of course you need to have some free time), and you don’t have to worry about gauge. I am already planning my second Mini-Clap!

This little beauty appeared on the plant last week – it has now been joined by 8 little siblings

Clapotis

I am planning on getting around to posting about my adventure in America, however I have been kept away from the P.C. So far since I have been back I have been to Kent, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, and then back to Buckinghamshire.

What little time I have had to myself I have been working on my Clapotis (This is my current Viral Knitting Project). I can’t believe it has taken me so long to knit this pattern… Am I the last knitter on earth to make this shawl?

Flower Feet

Flower Basket ShawlThe last few times I have seen Laura she has been wearing one of her fabulous shawl creations (really they are more like shawlettes or mini-shawls), I don’t think I would ever wear a big shawl, I guess to a wedding or maybe as a sarong on the beach, but the mini shawls are really wearable. So of course, I had to knit one. I had always liked the Flower Basket Shawl, and I even had the yarn some Knit Picks Shimmer, I brought in the spring. So whilst watching daytime TV today, I have been knitting.

Opal Sock Yarn CreamLolly asked on her blog today about what shoes you wear with your hand-knitted socks with? I have a growing collection of converse boots (I even wore converse at our wedding reception) and I am trying to make matching socks for all my boots, this is newest yarn I have brought to go with my (RED) converse.

This is the second post this week, with my shoes mentioned – I am getting a complex.
