For May the Fourth, I created a guide of some of my favourite Star Wars themed merchandise. It used to be as a Star Wars Fangirl if you wanted to express your fandom it was restrictive. You could wear a patch or badge. Maybefind a keyring. Or wear unisex t-shirt, which was often unflattering.

Now that has all changed. Design companies like Loungefly are working with Lucasfilm. Together they are creating innovative accessories for the female market. Independent Designers can also create interesting items to sell on Etsy, or t-shirt du jour websites like Teepublic. So today, fangirls can express themselves everyday in many ways.

Jewellery is one of my favourite ways to show off my love of Star Wars. Everytime I wear my Love and Madness opening crawl cuff, I get compliments. I also adore their Leia necklace in discreet enough to wear to work and still show off your fandom.

I recently discovered the UK-based website EMP are selling some of the Her Universe collection. Including the 40th anniversary Bomber Jacket. Before, I have had to order direct from American website, paying as much in postage and customs, as I did for the dress. So I was to see some items available here. I hope EMP start selling more items in the future.

Everyday Cosplay: K-2SO

For the last part of my Rogue One cosplay series I have decided to do K-2SO. Droids are an amazing part of the Star Wars stories. From the original R2-D2 and C-3PO to the newer fan favourite BB-8.

When thinking about cosplay, your first thought might not be to use a droid as your inspiration. I have seen some amazing droid based cosplay over the years. One of my all time favourite everyday cosplay is the Disneybound C-3PO outfit.

BB-8 has also provided the basis for some amazing cosplay this year. Online I have seen a kimono inspired dress, several fabulous variations for Dapper Day. And of course the adorable little BB-SK8. Will K-2SO be as popular next year? I think he might.

Everyday Cosplay: Director Krennic

Next up in my Everyday Cosplay to mark the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Is Director Krennic, one of the villains from the movie. The Star Wars films have a history of great villains, and I think Orson Krennic will join this rank.

As villians Kylo Ren, Captian Phasma, and Darth Vader as amongst fan favourites. In turn their characters have produced some of the greatest cosplay. Some of the best cosplay I saw at Star Wars Celebrations were Spider Maul ( Cyborg Darth Maul), and “Matt the Technician” aka Kylo Ren.

Director Krennic Description

As I said I think Director Krennic will become one of great Star Wars villains. The ambitious head of the Imperial Research Division, his costume is similar to that of the Grand Moff uniforms from A New Hope. His Imperial uniform is cream instead of grey with the addition of the amazing cape.

Everyday Cosplay: Jyn Erso

Who else is excited for the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, this week? I have stated numerous times on my blog, how excited I am about the release of this film. As a child watching A New Hope, one of the first things I saw on the screen in the opening crawl. Is mentions “the group of rebel spies that steal the secret plans to the Death Star. Now we can find out what happened to this group.
The closer we get to the release, the more my excitement grows. We brought my tickets for the midnight showing several weeks ago. I planned my outfit for the opening night months ago. I am wearing a Her Universe dress. But I thought I would create a few everyday cosplay outfits for some of the characters in the movie.

When we were at Star Wars Celebrations. We had a chance to see some of the costumes and props from the film. In the exhibit, next to each costume was a card listing all the aspects of the outfit. This display card was idea for cosplayer to get all the details of the costumes. They also were ideal to help for plan these outfits.

Jyn Erso Description
First of is Jyn. From the moment I saw the teaser trailer for Rogue One, in April I have loved Jyn as a character. The more footage from the film I see the more I want to get to know this newest female hero from the franchise.

Currently… November Edition

currently july

Currently Reading… Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno
As we are just days away from the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So I am getting into the “rebellious” spirit. We have brought our tickets for a midnight screening and I have bought merchandise and am reading the prequel book.

Currently Watching… Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
During November, I have loved watching Westworld. But the month was devoted to the return of Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I originally took Friday off, for Black Friday shopping but instead opted to spend the day in “Stars Hallow.”

Currently Listening… Cashmere by the Swet Shop Boys
I have loved this album for a few months, but seeing it performed live in November has increased my love for it. I am hoping for more material from Swet Shop Boys next year.

Currently Loving… Hamilton Mixtape
As I mentioned in my post about Joy, this month I have been loving the pre-released tracks from the Hamilton Mixtape, I can’t wait for the release of the whole album this weekend.

Currently Feeling… Christmassy
Last weekend, was the “Tree Decorating Party” for our extended family. An annual tradition when we all gather at my in-laws house and decorate their tree, eat, drink and relax before the craziness of December. It marks the start of the festive season for us.

Funko Fantasy List

The Five Funko I Wish They Would Make

As it’s my birthday next week, instead of blogging about my Funko wish list, I thought I would put together a Funko Fantasy List, the Pop! Vinyl figures I wish they would make.

  1. Lyanna Mormont from Game of Thrones
    Lyanna Mormont
For me this 10-year-old head of her house was the true star of the sixth season of Game of Thrones. The way she held her own when approached by Sansa and Jon or stared down Ramsey Bolton before the Battle of the Bastards. Lyanna Mormont is my spirit animal.
  2. Bodhi Rook from Star Wars Rogue One
Bodhi RookOn Force Friday a few weeks ago. Funko released a new range to tie-in with the release of Rogue One. But one member of the crew was missing Bodhi! This month on the blog I have given a lot of love to Riz Ahmed. So it makes sense that I would want the Funko version of his character to add to my collection.
  3. Ravi Chakrabarti from iZombie
Ravi ChakrabartiI know they have released a Liv from iZombie Funko and are planning on releasing a few more variations of her character. In the show my favourite character is Ravi, her co-worker and sidekick, If I had a list of fictional BFF’s he would be number one on my list!
  4. Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) from DC Comics
    Batgirl
The first Funko I brought was the Batgirl one. Since then I have brought every version of Pop!, Dorbz, or Vinyl Vixen they have produced. However, instead of all the Barbara Gordon varieties, I would love a Cassandra Cain version.
  5. Oracle from DC Comics
OracleAs I said I have many version of the Barbra Gordon Funko, which mainly include copies of her classic costume and the new Batgirl of Burnside outfit. But what about her “Oracle” days? This version would complete my “Babs” collection.

What characters are on your Fantasy Funko List? Which Pop! do you which they would make to add to your collection? Which franchise do you wish they would add to their range?

5FF- Five Geeky Clothing I Need…

5 Fandom Friday

Five Geeky Clothing I Need in My Closet Immediately.

As The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick are taking a break from Fandom Friday, I thought I would use the chance to catch up with the prompts from October 2014, this week discussing the five geeky items of clothing I need. The real reason most of these dresses are on this list is because the are from stores in the USA, and I don’t want to pay the postage or customs fees.

Geeky Clothing

  1. Agent Carter Dress – Her Universe
I adore the idea of a cute everyday cosplay dress. A dress that I could wear to conventions or movie opening nights. If there is one company that has cornered the market in everyday cosplay it is Her Universe. This Agent Carter dress was my favourite from the recent “Women of Marvel” collection.
  2. Galactic Scavenger Dress – Elhoffer Design
For a more customized everyday cosplay dress, my favourite company is Elhoffer Designs. I wanted to order the “Rey” dress to wear at Star Wars Celebrations,  but left ordering it too late.
  3. Sithkura Dress – Her Universe
Of course, as a geek I don’t just want to show my geekiness at conventions. I want to show it off everyday. This Darth Vader dress is in my favourite style and is perfect for spring or summer.
  4. Vader Embossed Dress– We Love Fine
Everyone needs a little black dress, don’t they? What better than a dress with embossed Vader masks, subtle enough to wear everyday (or night) and show off your geeky pride.
  5. Rogue One Tee
After seeing the new Rogue One trailer last week, I wanted a Rogue One tee, instead of just wearing a normal Star Wars one. This was my favourite t-shirt from the new collection.

Thank you The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick for creating Fandom Friday check out their blogs for more information. Or follow the #fandom5 or #5fandomfriday on Twitter.

Currently… September Edition

currently september

Currently Feeling… Lonely! Jason is working abroad for the next few weeks and I am not used to him being away from home. It does mean I got to spend the weekend in Gibraltar – hence why this post was late.

Currently Loving…  This month I seems to be a little obsessed with Riz Ahmed, we have loved his TV programme, I’m reading his book and we even re-watched Four Lions. Let’s not forget he is also going to be in Rogue One. He really is the breakout star of this year.

Currently Reading… The Good Immigrant edited Nikesh Shukla. This book is a collection of short stories by immigrants talking about their experiencing living in Great Britain. You can read an extract of Riz Ahmed’s story here.

Currently Watching… After watching the first episode of The Night Of on Sky. We then watched the entire box set in a weekend.

Currently Drinking… PSL! September means just one thing, Pumpkin Spice Lattes!

Five Fandom Friday

Five Winter Films

Similarly to the five summer films I talked about a few months ago, these are the five new releases I am looking forward to seeing in the cinema this autumn and winter.

  1. Rogue One

Obviously, the first film on the list had to be Rogue One. I have mentioned several times before how excited I am about this film. As a young Star Wars fan I always wondered about the rebel agents that stole the plans to the Death Star. Now finally I am going to see their story on-screen.

  2. Doctor Strange

I love the MCU and Sherlock, so as the kids say it’s “a non-brainer” that this movie has been added to the list. Marvel have always produced more than traditional superheroes movies, Winter Solider is a political thriller and Ant-Man is a heist movie. It will be interesting to see what direction this movie will take the MCU.

  3. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Where do you start this movie? A chance to re-enter the Harry Potter universe. Getting to met new characters and amazing creatures. Stunning visual effects all seem to spell out a magical film.

  4. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

I have to confess I have yet to read the Miss Peregrine series of books. However, that hasn’t stop me from getting excited about this movie. I adore Tim Burton, he is one of my go-to directors, so I am expecting his unique style in this movie.

  5. The Magnificent Seven

Growing up, I used to always watch movies with my dad, he played a massive part in shaping what movies I love. My dad’s favourite genre was westerns as I result I have fond memories of watching the original Magnificent Seven and it’s sequels with my dad, So in honour of him I am going to see this movie and hope they don’t mess it up!

What films are you most looking forward to seeing this autumn and winter?

Star Wars Celebration 2016: Day 3

Star Wars Celebration

For our last day at Star Wars Celebration, we headed to the Excel Centre early, to collect our wristbands for the Closing Ceremony. Rather than waiting in the long morning queue, Jason and I had breakfast in the local pub, where we were joined by our friend Matt. As Matt was getting inked at the Tattoo Pavilion, he too had to be at Celebrations bright and early.

Once inside the Convention, Matt had a quick chat with Adam Guy Hays (the tattooist). Jason and I chatted to a journalist from The Verge, who would be live-streaming the tattooing on their Facebook page. (You can see the highlights and finished tattoo here).

Whilst Matt was being tattooed, Jason and I meet up with his family. It was nice to experience Celebration with children, like me they adored the Lego play area. They also had a lot of fun looking at all the Star Wars themed art (they are both budding artists).

Star Wars Celebration
Dave Filoni

We ended the day, and our Celebration experience by watching the Closing Ceremony. I am obviously excited for the release of Episode VIII next year. It was also fun to finally get official confirmation that Alden Ehrenreich will be playing the young Han Solo.

When I began talking about my Star Wars Celebration experience I mentioned how I had Con-Envy at the when I see social media posts about other people’s convention adventures. The truth is I still had some Con-Envy even though I attended Celebration. There was so much going on we missed out on so much. Whilst we queued for the official store, our friends got to watch Mark Hamill take-over the Star Wars Livestream. We had to watch the record version of the Rogue One panel, when we got home. We even learned on social media Ash (one of my favourite bands) had played a Star Wars themed gig, as a pre-Celebration party. Whilst it was a wonderful experience and one I look forward to doing again, I guess I will always Con-Envy, as everyone experiences will be very different.
