Review of the Year 2020

Review of the Year 2020

It may seem a little silly writing a Review of the Year in the middle of January. And the truth is I didn’t intend on writing a review for 2020. As I didn’t really do anything, so, it seemed like a pointless post. However, this week I was looking over my past posts and I enjoyed reading over the previous Review of the Year posts. And yes, 2020 was a strange year where nothing happened, but I do think it is important for me to write about my experiences in 2020.

Review of the Year

Highlight – What one great thing happened to you this year.

Normally, my highlight of the year is an adventure to Comic-Con or vacation. Obviously, these didn’t happen. However, one thing I did get to do in 2020, was spent more time with my husband. As I mentioned in my Monday Musing update posts. My husband was furloughed in the early summer, we took this opportunity to stay at home and binge-watch numerous boxes sets without feeling guilty! And getting to spend time several weeks together without the stress of work, was obviously a fun highlight!

Surprise – Be it a TV show, film, game etc. that impressed you the most.

I guess the biggest surprise of the year, must be the pandemic! A year ago, when I was writing my resolutions, making plans and buying tickets for conventions or concerts. Who would have thought a few months later it would all be cancelled? That we would spend the next nine months indoors, trying to stay safe and protect ourselves and our families.
Yes, I know normally, my surprise of the year is a new TV show or movie, but it’s my list and I’m mixing it up a little!

New Fandom – Did you gain a new obsession in 2019?

My newest fandom is Saga, I came to this fandom very late! This is one of those comics I always see on the shelf in comic bookstores. In bookstores, I always picked up the graphic novels and browsed the pages because of the beautiful artwork. Then last summer, I downloaded a digital copy of Compendium One (which contained the first 54 issues) and read it all on several days. It fast became one of my favourite graphic novels and I started searching online to find out when the next issue is out!

The Comeback Kid – Was one of your fandoms rebooted, re-released, or re-imagined.

The comeback kid of 2020 had to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There is no doubt the game of 2020 was Animal Crossing! It was almost the reverse of the summer of 2016 when everyone was outside playing Pokémon GO! Last summer, everyone stayed at home and played Animal Crossing. I’m guessing it was a combination of the lockdown and the calming nation of the game, that made it the perfect game for the time.

Still, going strong? – did one TV show have an amazing season? Or did a book series have a truly impressive release this year?

I adored the second season of The Mandalorian.  The show continued with it’s Space Western theme started in the first season, which I loved. To be honest, they could have created 10 hours of Baby Yoda and Din on board the Razor Crest ship and I would be happy. But by adding in the amazing cameos from the movies and cartoons, connect the show to the larger Star Wars universe as well as opening the door for more Star Wars content in the future.

Biggest disappointment of the Year.

Everything getting cancelled. As I mentioned in my Review of the Year for 2019, I wanted to make more of an effort to go to Conventions this year. Even if it was for one day. I had already brought my tickets for LFCC, and some photo ops, as well as planning my outfits for the weekend. I had tickets for outdoor concerts in the summer and for some of the UEFA Euro 2020 in London. And then it was all cancelled.

Event of the year – be it a convention, viewing party, geek girl brunch etc.

Obviously, nothing 😢

What are you looking forward to next year?

Getting Vaccinated!
Seeing our extended family!
Meeting up with friends for drinks!
Going to the cinema!
Attending a concert or football match!
Little things I used to take for granted, that were denied to us in 2020!
