From beloved classics to highly anticipated second season, there’s no shortage of entertainment to look forward to. In this blog post, I’ll look at some of the most highly anticipated returning TV shows and what you can expect from them. So grab some popcorn and get ready to dive into the world of TV in 2024!
True Detective: Night County (Season 4)
Sky (15 January)
True Detective returns for its fourth season. Set in the northernmost tip of Alaska, this newest season deals with the death of eight men in a research station. The season introduces us to two new detectives, played by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, two co-workers with a past tasked with solving a cold case. Quickly, they realize the group of research scientists were murdered and set out to solve the case.
Abbott Elementary (Season 3)
Disney+ (7 February)
This Mockumentary style comedy programme centres around a group of lovable teachers in an underfunded school in Philadelphia. Abbott Elementary is returning for its third season. This season will pick up from the events of season two, focusing on the ongoing debate of Charter Schools and funding of schools in America. As well as the ‘will they, won’t they’ storyline between Jeanie and Gregory.
Bridgerton (Season 3)
Netflix (21 March)
The newest season of Bridgerton will be an adaption of Julia Quinn’s fourth Bridgerton book, Romancing Mr Bridgerton. It will follow the romance of the third Bridgerton son, Colin and Penelope Featherington, his sister’s best friend. Once again, we will be transported back to Regency London for more balls, gossip and bodice ripping!
The Bear (Season 3)

The Bear was one of the surprise hits from recent years. The comedy show, set in a family-run restaurant in Chicago, became a hit with critics and fans alike (It looks like it will also do well in awards season after winning at the Golden Globes this weekend). In regard to the third season little is known, but it sounds like the series will return to its kitchen-based drama like in the first season.
Cobra Kai (Season 6)
Netflix (TBC)
Cobra Kai is the spin-off from the 1980s Karate Kid movies, bringing back the original stars and introducing a new generation of Karate Kids. At first, the programme was on YouTube, but it soon found a new home (and new fans) on Netflix. The sixth season will be the final of this series. But, rumour is there will be a follow-up in cinematic film and spin-off TV shows within ‘the Miyagiverse.’
House of Dragon (Season 2)

The long-awaited second season of the House of the Dragon is returning to our screens this summer. Based on the George RR Martin book Fire and Blood, it is a prequel to the Game of Thrones series. This season will delve deeper into the war between members of the Targaryen family. Once again, we will see another battle for the Iron Throne in a battle known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Night Manager (Season 2)

The Night Manager was one of the most popular shows of 2016. Based on the is based on the highly acclaimed novel by John le Carré. Starring Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine, the first season follows Pine as he tries to bring down a notorious arms dealer. Little is known about the newest season apart from the fact that Hiddleston will return.
One Piece (Season 2)

One of Netflix’s most popular shows last year was the live-action version of One Piece. The fantasy adventure is the latest adaptation of the hugely successful Manga series of the same name. The second season is expected to air later this year and will follow the Straw Hat Pirates on their adventures in the dangerous oceans.
Stranger Things (Season 5)

Filming on Netflix’s retro fantasy programme began this week, so hopefully, we will get the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, this year. Following the events of the last season, our heroes are all reunited. But, as the Upside-Down spills into Hawkins, our teenage heroes face their most dangerous season yet.
Wednesday (Season 2)

The first season of Wednesday broke all of Netflix’s records as one of most streamed programmes of 2022. The programme also leads to several trends on social media, from recreating her dance to make-up trends. As expected, fans are eager for the release of the next season. Unfortunately, there is no release date for this season. But we can look forward to more adventures at Nevermore Academy.
