Favourite Fictional Closets

I recently watched Killing Eve and immediately became obsessed with Villanelle’s wardrobe. This isn’t the first time I have been dreaming about a character’s fictional closet. This is my latest fixation. So that in mind, I figured I would share the list with you in the form of a Five Fandom Friday. The list of five fictional characthers whose wardrobes I want to raid!

Five Fictional Closets I Want To Raid
  1. Mary Margaret Blanchard (Once Upon a Time)
    Fictional Closet: Mary Margaret Blanchard
Mary Margaret Blanchard has appeared on several of my Five Fandom Friday lists. On both the favourite fictional teacher and character I’d like to dress as for Halloween list. So it will come as no surprise, that I love Mary Margaret’s wardrobe. In the first season as a teacher in Storybrooke. She wore beautiful floral skirts, cute blouses and cosy cardigans. But the items in her wardrobe I loved the most where her gorgeous winter coats and wool berets.
  2. Jo Stockton (Funny Face)
    Fictional Closet: Jo Stockton
You could argue Audrey Hepburn’s greatest on-screen wardrobe was that in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In contrast, I am more of a fan of her clothes in Funny Face. The movie is set during the beatnik era, and as such her wardrobe contains Capri trousers, boatneck tops and classic trench coats. In the storyline, Hepburn becomes a model in Paris and as a result models the most amazing outfits. The clothes were all designed by Givenchy and Edith Head. Who also designed the clothes in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
  3. Veronica (Veronica Mars Movie)
    Fictional Closet: Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars’ wardrobe in the television programme was very much that of a quirky, preppy student. However, I adored her more ‘grown-up’ look in the Veronica Mars movie. Her look is created by layering textured tops under a blazer. Paired with classic jeans and boots combination. I especially loved the draped neck top she wore to the club. However, the highlight of the movie was when she once again donned her leather jacket and studded camera bag from the television show. As you can imagine, I cannot wait for next year to see the new season and more of her amazing wardrobe.
  4. Clara Oswald (Doctor Who)
    Fictional Closet: Clara Oswald
Clara’s wardrobe is probably the closest to my own. We both wear floral or tartan dresses, with woolly tights and chunky boots. I even have the leather jacket and red satchel! Although our styles are similar, that doesn’t mean I don’t have total envy at her dress collection! As well as her everyday clothes, let’s not forget the beautiful period pieces she wore.  For example, the 1920’s beaded dress from Mummy’s on the Orient Express or the party dress from The Cold War episode.
  5. Villanelle (Killing Eve)
    Fictional Closet: Villanelle
I loved all of Villanelle’s outfits! The wrap dress she wore with white trainers. The blue summer dress and of course the stunning pink chiffon dress worn with biker boots. And I haven’t even mentioned her amazing outerwear! The Teddy Bear coat, embroidered bomber jacket and classic raincoat. All items I am looking to add to my wardrobe this autumn. Whilst I know it is not a good idea to raid a psychopath’s wardrobe, and certainly dreaming about doing it.

Which fictional characters’s closet do you want to raid?
Have you seen Killing Eve? Are you obsessed with Villanelle’s clothes?
Is it okay to have a psychopathic killer as a fashion icon?
Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Anime Challenge

Megan at A Geeky Gal had embarked on an epic Anime Challenge. Each day in September she has answered 30 different questions all about anime. Whilst, I loved this idea I knew I couldn’t commit to 30 days worth of blog posts. So instead I have chosen five questions to answer as a quick Five Fandom Friday Challenge!

Five Fandom Friday: Anime Challenge
  1. Do you prefer Subs or Dubs? ( Day 3)
Don’t shot me but I am going to say, Dubs! But I am going to try to justify my answer. One of the main reason’s I love anime is for the artwork. I feel reading subtitles distracts from the beautiful imagery. Also, I tend to knit whilst watching TV and I am not capable enough to follow a plot, read subtitles. and knit.
  2. Who is your favourite female anime character? ( Day 11 )
This one is really easy to answer, it has to be Asuna Yuuki from Sword Art Online. She is strong, independent and will always stand up for those she loves. All attributes of great female character and someone we would love in our lives. I do have one issue with the treatment of her character. During the Aincrad storyline, Asuna is a fierce warrior. A swordswoman, she is just as good as Kirito. One of the strongest players in her guild. However, during the Fairy Dance Arc she is seen as weak and a victim, it isn’t until the Mother’s Rosario storyline we once again see the true Asuna!
  3. Who is your favourite male anime character? ( Day 12)
I have a joint favourite male character from anime, Kirito from Sword Art Online and L from Death Note. Rather than talk about SAO again. I am going to tell you why I love L! My dream job it would be a consulting detective (yes like Sherlock Holmes). L is the anime version of that, the quirky, genius detective. I adore the way he crouches instead of sitting down, and how he is always eating. As well as the way he outfoxes Light. Whilst I hated the Netflix live action version of Death Note. The only good thing about it was Lakeith Stanfield’s take on L.
  4. What is your favourite anime opening or ending? ( Day 14 )
I was unsure whether to allow this opening credits, as it’s an from an American anime, not Japanese. But I love the all the RWBY soundtracks. The Volume 1 opening credits, This Will Be the Day is a personal favourite. Both the music and the animation of Ruby Rose.
  5. What is an anime you want to watch but haven’t yet? ( Day 17)
Pyscho Pass. As I said I love detective programmes (and books), so it seems like something I would love. From what I have read it the premiss of the Pyscho Pass is to track down criminals before they commit a crime. So it isn’t a whodunnit mystery, just a cop show. I don’t really have a reason why I haven’t watched it. I do have a list of programmes I plan on watching, but the truth is, when it comes to anime I tend to re-watch my favourites.

5 Films I’m excited about in 2018

At the start of the year, I listed the five films I was excited about at the first half of 2018, luckily I remembered to update the list for the second half of the year. Whilst for me 2018 was all about seeing Avengers: Infinity War, there are still plenty of interesting movies released later this year.

Of course, it is going to be a little strange not having a new Star Wars movie in December. In recent years, we have started a few traditions around Christmas involving seeing the newest Star Wars movie, a midnight release with friends and then with family on Boxing Day. As a result, of the Solo movie’s May release, we are going to have to find something else to watch instead.

Five Fandom Friday: Five Films I’m excited about in 2018 part 2
  1. Ant-Man and The Wasp (August 3rd)

The end of Avengers: Infinity War left me wanting the next instalment in the MCU. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too long (Well we had to wait longer in the UK). Whilst I am excited to see the sequel. I am really excited to see Wasp in action (I still get so happy to see decent female superheroes onscreen). At the same time, I want to see how this movie tied into Avengers: Infinity War and that ending!

  2. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (November 16th)

It surprised me how much I loved the first Fantastic Beasts movie. Whilst I loved the idea of heading backing into the Wizard World. I was unsure if it would be the same without Harry Potter and Co. But, J.K. Rowling yet again weaved her magic and I fell in love with a new gang of wizards! Now we get the chance to return to Hogwarts, see a young Dumbledore and hopefully meet some new fantastic beasts!

  3. Venom (October 5th)

This is a weird one, A Venom film without Spider-Man! How would that work? Yes, I do think of Venom as an anti-hero rather than a villain, so I guess he doesn’t need a “hero” in his story. Yet, the Venom origin’s story I know is linked to heavily to Spider-Man. Eddie Brock working at the Daily Prophet with Peter Parker. The Spider-Man rejecting the Symbiote and it finding Brock. It will be interesting to how they re-work this story. Plus it stars Riz Ahmed, so of course, I want to see this film.

  4. Aquaman (December 14th)

I was a little apprehensive about the Aquaman film. not because it is a “World of DC” movie after all Wonder Woman was amazing. The truth is I felt a little seasick watching the underwater scenes in Justice League. And was unsure I could watch a whole movie set underwater. In light of the trailer release at SDCC last weekend, I am now hooked!

  5. Mary Poppins Returns (December 21st)

Mary Poppins is a great film from our childhoods. A classic Disney family movie, memorable songs, magic and dancing penguins! It’s pretty much perfect despite the dodgy cockney accent. This sequel has an amazing cast, notably the brilliant Angela Lansbury and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

5 Films I’m excited about in 2018

As the Five Fandom Friday is on a hiatus at the moment, I thought I would complete some of the older themes from the past. First off I am going to repeat the prompt from last January, the films I am excited to see in 2018. These are all movies released during the first half of the year. Hopefully, I will remember to re-do this prompt in the summer to update the list.

Five Fandom Friday: 5 Films I’m excited about in 2018
  1. Black Panther (February 12th)
After the brief scene in Captain America: Civil War of the Dora Milaje of T’Challa facing off against Black Widow. I am pumped to see the full team in action. Of course, I want to see Black Panther fighting his enemies in Wakanda. But this film has a strong female cast which I am really excited to see on-screen.
  2. Wrinkle in Time (March 23rd)
I read the Wrinkle in Time novel on a family vacation as a child and am surprised a movie adaptions had not happened earlier. I am excited to see Oprah Winfrey, especially after her speech this week at the Golden Globes. She along with Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are playing Mrs Which, Mrs Whatsit and Mrs Who, three of the best characters in the book.
  3. Ready Player One (March 30th)
This book has been on my to-read list forever. (Worst it’s one of those books I own and still haven’t read). Having not read it hasn’t stopped me wanting to see the movie. Steven Spielberg directing, 80’s nostalgia and a virtual reality world, what’s not to be excited about.
  4. Avengers: Infinity War (April 27th)
Do I really have to give a reason to be excited about seeing the latest Avengers movie? After the trailer dropped last November, I think everyone is counting down the days until this movie’s release date.
  5. Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th)

    No Trailer Available

It seems odd to be getting a new Star Wars movie in May. Seeing Star Wars before Christmas has become a tradition for me. However, I am not complaining about summer release of this latest movie. However, it would be nice to have seen a trailer by now.

Tsum Tsum Fantasy List

fandom_friday

The Five Tsum Tsum I Wish They Would Make

I have previously written about the Funko I Wish They Would Make or Fantasy Funko List. But seeing as my Tsum Tsum collection is larger than my Funko collection. I figured I would put together a fantasy Tsum Tsum list. I have tried to be true to Tsum Tsum and only include characters from franchises Disney own. Obviously, I would love it if they started making DC Comic Tsum Tsum or ones based on Game of Thrones characters. Imagine a Jon Snow or Ghost Tsum Tsum. But this list only includes Star Wars or Marvel characters.

  1. Agent Carter

    via GIPHY

Disney did release a Women of Marvel collection of Tsum Tsum last year. Oddly the set did include Sharon Carter, but not her aunt! I would love to see a Peggy Carter version. Especially if it included on her iconic outfit from the first season complete with red hat.

  2. Jessica Jones

    via GIPHY

Likewise, It was surprising that Jessica Jones wasn’t included in the Womem of Marvel collection. Other member of The Defenders like Luke Cage and Iron Fist are all missing from the collection. So hopefully, they will be a future collection.

  3. Bodhi Rook
    Bodhi Rook
The movies relating to the Skywalker Saga have all had the Tsum Tsum treatment including The Force Awakens. However, Star Wars: Rogue One never had a collection. I would love all the characters but especially, Bohdi Rook.
  4. Ahsoka Tano

    Ashoka Tano
Again The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, do not have Tsum Tsum collections. Some of the Clone Wars characters appeared in the Attack of the Clones collection, those that appeared in the film as well. However, as Ahsoka Tano didn’t appear in the movies she was not included.
  5. Porg

    via GIPHY

I know I am not the only person obsessed with Porgs? Seeing how popular all the Porg merchandise has been. I am assuming it’s only a matter of time before we get a cute Porg Tsum Tsum.

Fandom Friday: 5 Songs

5 fandom friday - 5 Songs

Five songs that remind me of a TV episode/Movie II

As I mentioned in my last Five Fandom Friday post, I had problems selecting just five songs to include on the list. So this week, I have decided to talk about the five more songs that remind me of TV episodes or movies.

  1. Moon River – Audrey Hepburn
    Breakfast at Tiffany’s
This has always been one of my favourite movies. Yes, I am upset the song is now used in an advert now! But the classic scene of a “dressed down” Holly Golightly singing on the fire escape is one of my favourite from the movie.
  2. Eyes – Rogue Wave
    Heroes – Genesis (SO1E01)
Remember the first season of Heroes, the show was original, unlike anything else at the time. In the final scene of the pilot, Peter gets into a cab that Suresh is driving. The two briefly talk, it’s one of the first meetings of “Heroes” As the cab pulls away, Peter watches the Solar Eclipse from the back window of the cab.
  3. Hide and Seek – Imogen Heap
    Lost Finale Teaser
Technically, this isn’t from a TV show. In the U.K. The TV channel Sky One broadcast Lost, before the series finale, the channel heavily advertised the fact it was Sim-casting the show at the same time as it aired in the United States. The trailer for the finale, featured the Imogen Heap song, the lyrics of which were very apt for Lost!
  4. Come and Get My Love – Redbone
    Guardians of the Galaxy
Whilst Hooked on a Feeling might be the song most people associate with GOTG, this is the song that hooked me as a fan. I went to see GOTG, solely based on it being part of the Marvel Universe. I didn’t have any expectations. When the movie started and we first see Starlord dancing to this song. I fell in love with Peter Quill and the movie.
  5. Consequence – The Notwists
    Push
Push is a guilty pleasure movie for me, it might be because of Chris Evans. I am not sure. It’s a silly science fiction about a group of people with powers on the run from an evil corporation. Of course, there is a subplot involving a love story and this song plays during the romantic scene. Extremely cheesy, but I adore the song.

Five Fandom Friday

Five songs that remind me of a TV episode

Confession time, I have a secret Spotify playlist. When I am watching a TV programme I hear a song I like, I “Shazam” the song. The I add the song to my TV/Movies playlist on Spotify. So you might thing writing this post was easy, but actually it was pretty hard to narrow it down to five.

  1. 4 Non Blondes – What’s Up
    Sense8 – What’s Going On (S01E04)
When this song was originally released I didn’t like it. It was overplayed on the radio, which might explain why I know all the words to the song! When I watched Sense8, just as I was getting to love all the characters in the show. The scene involving the song cemented my love for all the sensate.
  2. Bell Biv Davoe – Poison
Scrubs  – My Half Acre (S05E09)
So many episodes of Scrubs featured great tunes, sometimes the music was the perfect choose for the storyline. Like JD’s last day. Other times it was for comedic value. When Turk auditioned to join the The Cool Cats, he performed this hip hop classic.

    .
  3. Violent Femmes – Add It Up
    The 100 – Wanheda: Part 1 (S03E01)
Originally, I remember singing this song with friends in my room at university – singing it at the top of our lungs! This scene that features Add it Up in The 100 is pretty similar, friends driving and singing, having fun! Being The 100, it also signals the calm before the storm.
  4. Blondies – One Way Or Another
Veronica Mars – Clash of the Tritons (S01E12)
During the first season, Veronica Mars investigates a secret society in her high school. Whilst following several suspected members of the society to a karaoke bar. Once there, they set up Veronica to force her to sing. Being Veronica Mars, she picks the Blondie classic “One Way Or Another” sending a message to the society.
  5. Julee Cruise – Falling
Twin Peaks – Northwest Passage (S01E01)
The Twin Peaks theme tune, is one of the more iconic themes. Whilst everyone is familiar with the instrumental version from the show. There is also a version with lyrics. Julee Cruise performed the song (and several others) in the pilot episode of the show. Even now when, I hear this song I am transported back to Washington State, with owls, cherry pie and coffee!

5FF: Galentine’s Day Gifts

I actually wrote about Galentine’s Day before, how I hoped it would become more popular and some gift ideas I had seen on Pinterest. This year for Fandom Friday I have put together the five galentine’s day gifts, I would like to give (or receive) this Galentine’s Day.

This post contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links, I will earn a commission. You will not pay more when buying a product through my link.

5FF Galentine's Day Gifts

Five Galentine’s Day Gifts
  1. Bracelet
At high school, my friends and I loved to make friendship bracelets. We would stack dozens of them on our wrists. Nowadays, I still love stacking bracelets, but opt for mixing bracelets made from semi-precious beads, with traditional cotton bracelets or and a simple silver bangle.
  2. Planner Stickers
Currently, all my friends are obsessed with planners or bullet journals. Being a stationary addict myself, I love planner stickers. These “Girl Night Out” are the prefect way to mark your Galentine’s Day Brunch or girly night out in your planner.
  3. BFF Pin
Who doesn’t love a some flair? Everyone seems to love wearing a pin or three at the moment. Normally, I buy pins based on my fandoms or geeky loves, but this BFF Conversation Heart pin is lovely. I just wish I could find a Love Heart (the UK Conversation Hearts) version.
  4. Candle
Candles are my go to gift. They can seem like a quick and easy gift, but can spend ages sniffing all the candles in the store. Although the Jo Malone’s candles can be a little on the pricey side, the scent fills the whole of the downstairs of our house. Plus they seem to last a lot longer than cheaper candles.
  5. Card
Finally, to go with all your Galentine’s Day gifts you need a card. The fabulous card also included a few Lesley Knope quotes!

Five TV programmes I Can’t Wait To Watch in 2017

I missed last weeks Five Fandom Friday prompts, but I really wanted to talk about the TV programmes I can’t wait to watch this year, so I am posting this a week late. The Nerdy Girlie has posted prompts for February 2017, so you to can join in.

    1. Twin Peaks

      via GIPHY

One of my favourite show when I was at school was Twin Peaks – along with The X-Files. I am unsure if my teenage self and friends fully understood the programme or story-lines. But we all loved watching them and spend hours talking about them. I even began drinking coffee because of Agent Cooper, but could never understand his obsession with cherry pie. Years later I re-watched Twin Peaks and still loved it, I became more obsessed with the show, reading Laura Palmer Secret Diary, listening to Dale’s tapes. Obviously, I can’t wait to see what direction this show takes.

    2. The Defenders

As a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I was extremely interested when they announced the Netflix collaboration to bring street level heroes together as a group. Since, then I have adored the first season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. I might not have enjoyed the second season of Daredevil as much, but I did love The Punisher. So the idea of seeing these heroes (and Iron Fist) working together sounds amazing.

    3. Game of Thrones

I know this season will be the next to the last season, I know it is a shorter season, and that we have to wait longer for this season to start. That hasn’t stopped me desperately waiting to find out who will win the “Game of Thrones”.

    4. Stranger Things

      via GIPHY

Without a doubt the surprise hit show of 2016 was Stranger Things. We binge-watched the first season in a weekend and they re-watched it several month later – just to see if missed anything the first time around.

    5. The Walking Dead

I will be honest, I wasn’t too impressed with the first half of season seven of The Walking Dead. The killing off of one of the favourite characters. Other characters changing their personality and the general direction of heroes story-lines all seemed frayed. However the last episode of the mid-season seemed to set them all back on the right path and return the show back to the programme I love.

5 Films I’m Excited for in 2017

5FF: Films I'm excited for in 2017

Five Films I’m Excited for in 2017

For this week’s Five Fandom Friday I am talking about the five films I’m excited for in 2017. There are so many great films released this year, I found it hard to narrow the list down to five films. What films are you excited for, that are being released on 2017.

  1. The Lego Batman MovieMy favourite animated movie in recent years was The Lego Movie. The film feature several amazing cameos of Lego version of geeky characters. Gandalf, Superman and Han Solo. But my favourite character was Batman. Judging my the trailer this film will be both funny and awesome.
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
When I first heard about the original Guardians of the Galaxy, I was unsure. I wasn’t familiar with the characters. It was unclear how they would fit into the larger Marvel universe. Of course after seeing the first trailer I became a fan. Since then I have loved the Guardians and can’t wait to see them in action again.
  3. Wonder WomanI was not impressed with the films released last year by DC Comics. But the only saving grace in the Batman vs Superman movie was Wonder Woman. I have adored Wonder Woman since I was a child. I am old enough to remember the Linda Carter TV show, so an excited to see her back on screen.
  4. Blade Runner 2049I have several cult films I adore. Films I often re-watch at home, I also love to see these movies in the cinema. These are films I hope they never remake. Films I would love them to make a sequel too. Blade Runner is one of these films (The Goonies is another). I am trilled to returning to a futuristic Los Angeles and see Decker’s adventures.
  5. Star Wars: Episode Eight
The final film of the year I am looking forward to the next instalment in the Star Wars franchise. It may seem strange to be talking about a film without a title or trailer. But as a fan I have my countdown clock set up and am reading any news and avoiding all spoilers.
