For this week’s Five Fandom Friday I am talking about the five films I’m excited for in 2017. There are so many great films released this year, I found it hard to narrow the list down to five films. What films are you excited for, that are being released on 2017.
The Lego Batman MovieMy favourite animated movie in recent years was The Lego Movie. The film feature several amazing cameos of Lego version of geeky characters. Gandalf, Superman and Han Solo. But my favourite character was Batman. Judging my the trailer this film will be both funny and awesome.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
When I first heard about the original Guardians of the Galaxy, I was unsure. I wasn’t familiar with the characters. It was unclear how they would fit into the larger Marvel universe. Of course after seeing the first trailer I became a fan. Since then I have loved the Guardians and can’t wait to see them in action again.
Wonder WomanI was not impressed with the films released last year by DC Comics. But the only saving grace in the Batman vs Superman movie was Wonder Woman. I have adored Wonder Woman since I was a child. I am old enough to remember the Linda Carter TV show, so an excited to see her back on screen.
Blade Runner 2049I have several cult films I adore. Films I often re-watch at home, I also love to see these movies in the cinema. These are films I hope they never remake. Films I would love them to make a sequel too. Blade Runner is one of these films (The Goonies is another). I am trilled to returning to a futuristic Los Angeles and see Decker’s adventures.
Star Wars: Episode Eight
The final film of the year I am looking forward to the next instalment in the Star Wars franchise. It may seem strange to be talking about a film without a title or trailer. But as a fan I have my countdown clock set up and am reading any news and avoiding all spoilers.
As it’s my birthday next week, instead of blogging about my Funko wish list, I thought I would put together a Funko Fantasy List, the Pop! Vinyl figures I wish they would make.
Lyanna Mormont from Game of Thrones
For me this 10-year-old head of her house was the true star of the sixth season of Game of Thrones. The way she held her own when approached by Sansa and Jon or stared down Ramsey Bolton before the Battle of the Bastards. Lyanna Mormont is my spirit animal.
Bodhi Rook from Star Wars Rogue One
On Force Friday a few weeks ago. Funko released a new range to tie-in with the release of Rogue One. But one member of the crew was missing Bodhi! This month on the blog I have given a lot of love to Riz Ahmed. So it makes sense that I would want the Funko version of his character to add to my collection.
Ravi Chakrabarti from iZombie
I know they have released a Liv from iZombie Funko and are planning on releasing a few more variations of her character. In the show my favourite character is Ravi, her co-worker and sidekick, If I had a list of fictional BFF’s he would be number one on my list!
Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) from DC Comics
The first Funko I brought was the Batgirl one. Since then I have brought every version of Pop!, Dorbz, or Vinyl Vixen they have produced. However, instead of all the Barbara Gordon varieties, I would love a Cassandra Cain version.
Oracle from DC Comics
As I said I have many version of the Barbra Gordon Funko, which mainly include copies of her classic costume and the new Batgirl of Burnside outfit. But what about her “Oracle” days? This version would complete my “Babs” collection.
What characters are on your Fantasy Funko List? Which Pop! do you which they would make to add to your collection? Which franchise do you wish they would add to their range?
As The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick are taking a break from Fandom Friday, I thought I would use the chance to catch up with the prompts from October 2015. I originally thought it would be easy to pick my favourite fictional teachers. I adore a lot of teen drama television programmes like Smallville or My So-Called Life. But I couldn’t think of any teachers from these programmes, that I liked.
Do Watchers count as teachers? I know Giles worked in the school library and wasn’t really a teacher. But he was a trainer for Buffy and a mentor to the other members of the Scoobies Gang. Over seven seasons, whether Giles was a member of the Watcher’s council or the owner of the magic store. He was always loyal to Buffy.
The first time we meet Yoda he was a teacher to Luke, but in the prequel films and Clone Wars, we saw Yoda sit on the Jedi Council. Teach the younglings and mentor Jedi Masters and Padawans. So in a way, Yoda was the Jedi Masters’ Master.
Of all of Harry’s teachers at Hogwarts, Lupin was my favourite. I have a soft spot for the Marauders. (I am still hoping for a Marauder’s book or movie). Lupin was one of many father figures that came into Harry’s life. During his brief time at Hogwarts, he became a teacher and mentor to Harry Potter and his friends.
Roland “Prez” Pryzbylewski (The Wire)
Prez was useless as a police officer, he was controlled by his father in law. He did not suit field work but did manage to find some success in the office listening in on “the wire”. But it wasn’t until the fourth season of the show when he began working at the school that he found his place. Prez tried to help the kids stay “off the corners.” But, ultimately drugs ended up affecting each member of the gang.
Mary Margaret Blanchard (Once Upon A Time)
During the first season of Once Upon A Time. Mary Margaret was Henry’s school teacher, she was even the one that gave him the “storybook.” During this period I loved he haircut and clothes, if I ever became a teacher she would be my style icon for my work wardrobe. In the current season, it looks like Mary Margaret will be going back to teaching. So I am looking forward to seeing more of her amazing outfits.
Five Geeky Clothing I Need in My Closet Immediately.
As The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick are taking a break from Fandom Friday, I thought I would use the chance to catch up with the prompts from October 2014, this week discussing the five geeky items of clothing I need. The real reason most of these dresses are on this list is because the are from stores in the USA, and I don’t want to pay the postage or customs fees.
Agent Carter Dress – Her Universe
I adore the idea of a cute everyday cosplay dress. A dress that I could wear to conventions or movie opening nights. If there is one company that has cornered the market in everyday cosplay it is Her Universe. This Agent Carter dress was my favourite from the recent “Women of Marvel” collection.
Galactic Scavenger Dress – Elhoffer Design
For a more customized everyday cosplay dress, my favourite company is Elhoffer Designs. I wanted to order the “Rey” dress to wear at Star Wars Celebrations, but left ordering it too late.
Sithkura Dress – Her Universe
Of course, as a geek I don’t just want to show my geekiness at conventions. I want to show it off everyday. This Darth Vader dress is in my favourite style and is perfect for spring or summer.
Vader Embossed Dress– We Love Fine
Everyone needs a little black dress, don’t they? What better than a dress with embossed Vader masks, subtle enough to wear everyday (or night) and show off your geeky pride.
Rogue One Tee
After seeing the new Rogue One trailer last week, I wanted a Rogue One tee, instead of just wearing a normal Star Wars one. This was my favourite t-shirt from the new collection.
Similarly to the five summer films I talked about a few months ago, these are the five new releases I am looking forward to seeing in the cinema this autumn and winter.
Obviously, the first film on the list had to be Rogue One. I have mentioned several times before how excited I am about this film. As a young Star Wars fan I always wondered about the rebel agents that stole the plans to the Death Star. Now finally I am going to see their story on-screen.
I love the MCU and Sherlock, so as the kids say it’s “a non-brainer” that this movie has been added to the list. Marvel have always produced more than traditional superheroes movies, Winter Solider is a political thriller and Ant-Man is a heist movie. It will be interesting to see what direction this movie will take the MCU.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Where do you start this movie? A chance to re-enter the Harry Potter universe. Getting to met new characters and amazing creatures. Stunning visual effects all seem to spell out a magical film.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
I have to confess I have yet to read the Miss Peregrine series of books. However, that hasn’t stop me from getting excited about this movie. I adore Tim Burton, he is one of my go-to directors, so I am expecting his unique style in this movie.
The Magnificent Seven
Growing up, I used to always watch movies with my dad, he played a massive part in shaping what movies I love. My dad’s favourite genre was westerns as I result I have fond memories of watching the original Magnificent Seven and it’s sequels with my dad, So in honour of him I am going to see this movie and hope they don’t mess it up!
What films are you most looking forward to seeing this autumn and winter?
Every week Kayla from Epicfied hosts a Fandom Friday Q&A about a specific fandom and asks readers submit their answers. Last week, it was five general questions about fandoms, so I thought I would turn my answers into a blog post – so you could get to know the fandoms I love (You can read their answers here).
What are your top five fandoms?
Game of Thrones
Marvel Cinematic Universe
What is a fandom you love but isn’t extremely popular?
I am going to have to say Orphan Black, I love this show and became hooked from the first season however, no one I know seemed to watch it, so that’s why I adding it here.
What is a fandom you highly recommend?
Too many to mention, I spent a few years convincing all my friends to watch Game of Thrones just so I could discuss each episode, spoilers and theories.
I know a lot of people have read the New 52 Batgirl, but I prefer the pre-Flashpoint version, with Barbara Gordon as Oracle and Cassandra Cain as Batgirl, so I guess I would recommend reading Batgirl: Silent Knight or Birds of Prey: Vol 1.
Do you collect anything?
My largest collection is Star Wars based, in the attic I have a lot of merchandise from the 1990’s, Episode One Lego sets, board games and dozens of Expanded Universe books.
Last year, I brought a few Tsum Tsum, this year as they released two Star Wars waves and a Civil War set, I seem to have developed a larger collection, with the Finding Dory and The Force Awaken sets being released this month, I think my collection will continue to grow.
Anything else? Like many I am still not over the fact the Firefly got cancelled!

This Friday I’m going to talk about the five films that are released this summer that I’m most looking forward to. You might notice that several of these films are sequels to my comfort films from last week.
Normally I say don’t make a sequel to a classic movie, but the follow-ups to Pixar’s greats like Toy Story have been amazing, so I have high hopes for this film. I’m looking forward to learning more about Dory – discovering how she learnt to speak whale and hopefully seeing her reunite with her family.
Everybody Wants Some
Technically, this isn’t a sequel but Richard Linklater has referred to this film as a spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused. I love Dazed and Confused, the plot set over one night, the script (Just Keep Living), and the cast (it’s one of the first films for both Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey). I’m hoping this film serves up a lot of the same.
Captain America: Civil War
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKrVegVI0UsIt’s the latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, A Captain America film, Steve and Bucky back together! Ant-Man joining the team, introducing Black Panther and Spider-Man into the MCU – what is not to look forward to about this film!
I know Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn’t well received by the audiences and critics, and I’m trying not to judge this film based on the previous DC movie. Whilst I am a little concerned about seeing a new Joker (can anyone top Heath Ledger), that hasn’t stopped me adding it to the list!
ITV have a tendency to show the same films in the evenings, the Ocean’s Eleven films and the first three Bourne films, as result Jason and I have seen these movies several times and they have become guilty pleasures. Now we have Matt Damon back as Jason Bourne ready to bring down Treadstone.
I only joined 5 Fandom Friday last September, but the project had been running for 18 months before I joined – I had missed several topics I would have loved to write about. So I’m going to play “catch-up” this week and write about my five comfort films (a prompt from March 2015).
Although all these films are so different for my they are all well written and for me are the also the films I quote the most! I’m pretty sure anyone that has seen The Avengers has quoted a line from it – for me the whole of the script during the Battle of New York is quotable line after quotable line.
This is just like Budapest, huh? – Black Widow (The Avengers)
Which comfort films I watch really depends on my mood – if I was something short and sweet it’s The Goonies, for a general feeling good film it Breakfast at Tiffany’s. All of these films I have watched again and again, they make me happy or cry – the opening scene in Finding Nemo always sets me off.
If I’m feeling blue I will have a movie marathon watching these (or the Original Star Wars trilogy) and if I have a mean case of the reds “I jump in a cab and go to Tiffany’s!”
Instead of 5 Fandom Friday, this week I thought I would list my five favourite fangirl moments from this week. It has been an interesting one, the week started off a little shocking and then yesterday, news about several of my favourite fandoms appeared online.
The Walking Dead Season 6 Finale
Monday nights are The Walking Dead night in our house, we even watch The Talking Dead, to digest everything we have just seen. Needless to say, this season finale, has left us feeling completely numb. I know fans have complained about the open ending, but I didn’t mind the cliffhanger.
Orphan Black Season 4
I knew BBC America are planning on airing the newest season of Orphan Black in April, and I thought we would have to wait until September like last year. However, it looks like Netflix will be showing it a few days afterwards, starting in the 15th. Until then this prequel teaser has me hooked.
Death Note Remake
It seems once every six months or so we get news about a Hollywood remake of Death Note, and every time I moan – we don’t need a remake! Over the years I have heard the strangest rumours from Zac Efron playing Light to Gus Van Sant directing (this did impress), the latest story ( you can read it here) is that Netflix have picked up the rights.
Gilmore Girls Revival
I am beyond excited that Gilmore Girls is returning later this year. I always felt let down by the final season, I’m not going to re-hash the issues, only to say I am glad the show didn’t run past it’s seven seasons. I cannot imagine post-grad Rory’s life and how this would still link into Star’s Hollow or how this would have been turned into a weekly show. Now, it feels right to have the show back and get a seasonal insight into the Gilmore’s lives. You can read more about the revival here, and it also looks like Sookie is coming back!
Star Wars: Rogue One Trailer
Obviously, the biggest news this week has been the Rogue One trailer. I could have written a whole post about my feeling on this!
Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso looks amazing, I am hoping Disney will realise we love strong female leads and adore merchandise on these characters even more!
Speaking of female characters, I was excited to see Genevieve O’Reilly back as Mon Mothma, as she has an amazing resemblance to Caroline Blakiston.
Contrary to everyone else, I don’t think Jyn is any relation to Rey. I think the rest of Rey’s story will be played out in episode eight (and maybe nine).
Likewise I don’t think Diego Luna’s character is Poe’s father.
Apart from a few overlapping characters (like in Star Wars: Rebels ), I think this story will not relate to the Skywalker Saga Anthology films.
As Grand Admiral Thrawn is meant to be re-canonized, I would like to think Ben Mendelsohn is playing him. Another theory is he will be Grand Moff Tarkin, overseeing the building of the Death Star.
What has been your highlight of the week?
Have you any theories about the Rogue One trailer?
My friend M has numerous amazing Star Wars tattoos done by some amazing tattoo artists, when he mentioned one of the artists, Adam Guy Hays would be at the London Tattoo convention, I jumped at the chance to get inked. Due to limited time, we had to opt for smaller tattoos and each picked on of the “symbols” from Star Wars. I had the rebel alliance symbol on left foot below my ankle. The following year, Adam returned to London and I completed the set with the Empire symbol on my right foot.
Another Star Wars Tattoo
For my next tattoo, I am hoping for another Star Wars tattoo, hopefully at Star Wars Celebration this summer. Ideally I would love an X-Wing, especially Poe’s new black ship.
Cross Stitch Shield
I am completely in love with this tattoo! I am awful at cross stitching (I always end up with tons of knots at the back of my work), but the combination of craftiness and geekiness of this tattoo, just makes me adore it. Shame the artist is based in Turkey.
Finally, I would love a classic yellow and black Batman logo!
