Autumn Tag

I love blog tags! They are a great way to get to know your blogger friends better. One of my favourite tags was the Christmas tag from a few years ago. I loved reading about fellow blogger’s traditions.
That’s why I love this Autumn Tag. As autumn is my favourite time of year, I love reading about other people’s traditions.

I discovered this cute Autumn Tag on Chronical Sunflower’s blog. It was originally designed by Ellduclos to kick-start her ‘Blogtober’ series. As always the questions are at the end of the post if you want to play along.

The Autumn Tag

Autumn Tag

  1. What is one candle you MUST light every Autumn?
I always loved the Candy Corn candles from Yankee Candle. However, it seems to have been discontinued this year. Being replaced by Sweet Seduction. I am not too keen on the smell but love the new ceramic jar! Instead this year, I brought several Pumpkin Spice home fragrances in TK Maxx. Including pretty jam-jar candle and reed diffuser.
  2. When you think of Autumn, what does it remind you of?
Whilst, most people might think about colder weather, falling leaves and cosy nights in! For me Autumn means Birthdays! My birthday is on Halloween and my husband’s birthday is two weeks later. So when the leaves start changing colour, I start planning celebratory nights out. And shopping for birthday presents.
  3. What is your all-time favourite Autumn/Halloween movie?
I don’t really have a favourite autumn movie. However, we tend to watch a lot of box sets in the autumn. This year I am thinking of re-watching Gilmore Girls or Once Upon a Time. And dreaming about New England in the autumn!
  4. What Halloween costume do you have in mind?
As I said it’s my birthday on Halloween, so I never get dressed up! We tend to have a meal or drinks somewhere. So I plan a date night outfit, rather than a costume. Saying that, with MCM London, the weekend before Halloween. I am planning a little geeky Halloween outfit to wear then.
  5. What is your favourite Autumn trend?
At the risk of sounding basic, I love PSL! I have written before about some of my favourite Pumpkin recipes. As I said I have brought pumpkin spiced candles this year. Autumn is all about the Pumpkin Spice!
  6. When you think of Autumn, what drink comes to mind?
Obviously, for me, it has to be PSL. However, saying that I am attempting to try some other autumnal drinks from different coffee shops this year. You can follow my efforts on Instagram.
  7. What is your go-to Autumn beauty product? A must-have staple!
I am not a beauty blogger or a make-up addict. But when the weather gets colder, I reach for my favourite lip balm and moisturiser. Currently, my favourite lip balm is Marc Jacobs’ Lip Lock.
  8. Do you prefer apple pie or pumpkin pie?
I am not a huge fan of pies! Plus I hate cooked apples. So I am going to say Pumpkin Cheesecake!
  9. Do you have any Autumn traditions? If so tell us all about it!
Autumn officially starts once I have had my first PSL! Once the weather gets cooler, I dig out all my favourite cosy knitwear! In October, we start decorating the house with pumpkins, autumnal candles and fake coloured leaves. Towards the end of the month, Halloween decorations get added. Then it is birthday season! This normally involves a Jason and I having a nice meal, drinks with friends and a Sunday dinner with family.
  10. The moment of truth, is Autumn your favourite season?
    Yes!

Five Fandom Friday

5 Pumpkin Items Cannot Wait To Purchase

5 Pumpkin Items Cannot Wait To Purchase
  1. PSL – It will come as no surprise to readers of the blog that the first thing I love to buy when autumn rolls around is a Pumpkin Spice Latte! In fact autumn hasn’t truly arrived until I have had my first sip.
  2. Pumpkin Puree – Autumn is a great time to get baking, I have already shared some of the recipes I want to try this year. The one thing I need for all this baking is Libby’s Pumpkin Puree!
  3. Pumpkin Candles – As I mentioned in the last Fandom Friday, when visiting the States in the autumn my first stop is Starbucks for a PSL, my second is Bath and Body Works to stock up on scented candles, bubble bath, shower gel and antibac. Seeing as we aren’t going to America this year, I am looking for a substitute pumpkin candle – until I find one I will make do with the Infamous Boyfriend Candle.
  4. Philosophy Pumpkin Icing Shower Gel – My search for autumnal scented products did uncover Philosophy’s Pumpkin Icing Shower Gel, I have used their Pumpkin Pie variety before – and it’s amazing for adding a quick burst of autumn into my morning routine.
  5. Pumpkin Spice Latte M&Ms – I adore M&Ms so of course I was over the moon when I read about these limited edition PSL version. Unfortunately, they are not available in the UK (not even in a M&M World Store), but some quick stalking of some US stores online have produced some leads.
    Edit: Amazon have them.

Pinspirational – Pumpkin Recipes

pinspiration

Recently I have pinned a lot of pumpkin themed recipes, and whilst it is fun to try adding some pumpkin to my overnight oats or yogurt for breakfast what I really want it to bake some calorific pumpkin treats, these are some of the recipes I am looking forward to trying this autumn.

Macarons are certainly en vogue in the baking world, one of my favourite things about Paris (or Covent Garden) is getting trying all the flavours in Ladurée. This recipe from Tasty Kitchen used the pumpkin in the filling and the “spice” is added to the macaron.

Autumn is the start of my hibernating months – lazy weekends, binge watching my new favourite TV show into the small hours followed by a hearty brunch. Obviously the healthy diet goes out the window on these weekends, so I am looking forward to indulging in these pancakes.

This recipe for pumpkin bread from Sallys Baking Addiction, can also be adapted to make muffins which I think would work well as part of a lazy weekend brunch or for a quick afternoon treat with your pumpkin spice latte.

In the UK prepackage “pumpkin spice” isn’t readily available so I have found this recipe to make your own version.

EDIT: There seems to be an issue displaying the pinterest widgets, I am looking into this and hopefully will find a solution soon.

5 Favourite Things About Autumn

fandom_friday

  1. Pumpkins – I have mentioned before how I love going to the pumpkin patch at the beginning of October to buy decorations for the house, I also stock up on canned pumpkin purée for cooking. I hate pumpkin pie, but love experimenting with other recipes, cheesecake, muffins and cupcakes. This year I want to try to make pumpkin pancakes.
  2. PSL– following on from loving pumpkin flavours food, I am obsessed with Pumpkin Spice Latte’s. Oddly the drink has only been available in the Starbucks in UK for the last three years, before that I had to order the syrup online or binge drink them when we were on vacation in America. When we went to Las Vegas I even brought I drink at the airport before collecting my suitcase from the carousel.
    Finished Gretel
  3. Berets – autumn is all about layers, I do love scarves and chunky cardigans, but for me autumn is all about the beret. Every year I like to knit myself a new hat (normally a beret) in the new colour of the season. This weekend I will take my hats out of storage (I put them away over the summer in a box with lavender bags) ready for the colder months.
  4. Birthdays – Yes I know you can have a birthday at anytime of year but both my husband and I celebrate our birthdays during the autumn, just a few weeks apart. This means that from the end of October to mid-November our calendar is filled with outings for our birthdays. Over the last few years we have both celebrated big birthdays so this has involved a vacation, but normally its a few meals, maybe an afternoon tea and lots of cocktails!

  5. My birthday actually falls on Halloween (my final favourite thing about autumn), this means that a lot of activities around my birthday have a Halloween theme – which I love! It also gives me an excuse to decorate the house in Halloween/birthday hybrid of decorations!

(P)inspirational- Pumpkin Crafts

pinspiration

I’ve noticed a trend on blogs to decorate homes ready for this time of year – a sort of pre-Halloween decoration. I love this idea, slowly I have added some trinkets around our house – mainly mini pumpkins and pumpkin-spiced scented candles. These are a few of my favourite pumpkin crafts.

I actually made these little pumpkins last fall, when I planned on starting my new autumn tradition. The free pattern from The Sitting Tree is a lovely, quick knit so add some autumn love to your home.

Most of us have a jar full of buttons with no idea what we are going to do with them (I’m assuming button stashes grow with yarn stashes), this lovely picture was designed, as a project to do with children – but it is so effective I think it would great added to anyone’s fall decorations.

Finally, show your Pumpkin Spiced Latte love with this embroidered cute PSL mug by Wild Olive (she’s also made a brooch version).

That time of year…

Autumn is definitely here now! #psl #fall

A post shared by princessdeia . London (@princessdeia) on

There is no denying autumn is here… I love this time of year, the colours, cozy knits and pumpkin flavoured everything. If you follow me on instagram you know my joy last month when I discovered Starbucks have started selling Pumpkin Spiced Lattes again, for me that is truly the start of autumn.

It also gets me thinking about all the fabulous things I can knit to keep me warm over the next few months. As much as I love knitting socks, I have way too many pairs of knitted sock and so knitting them seems a little pointless this year, although I could so with some thicker socks for my welly boots. It is sort of the same for hats (especially berets), I have knitted way too many in past years. Oddly I haven’t knitted a lot of scarves for me and it has been a while since I have knitted a sweater.

Are you planning on knitting anything special for autumn?
