Favourite Fictional Closets

I recently watched Killing Eve and immediately became obsessed with Villanelle’s wardrobe. This isn’t the first time I have been dreaming about a character’s fictional closet. This is my latest fixation. So that in mind, I figured I would share the list with you in the form of a Five Fandom Friday. The list of five fictional characthers whose wardrobes I want to raid!

Five Fictional Closets I Want To Raid
  1. Mary Margaret Blanchard (Once Upon a Time)
    Fictional Closet: Mary Margaret Blanchard
Mary Margaret Blanchard has appeared on several of my Five Fandom Friday lists. On both the favourite fictional teacher and character I’d like to dress as for Halloween list. So it will come as no surprise, that I love Mary Margaret’s wardrobe. In the first season as a teacher in Storybrooke. She wore beautiful floral skirts, cute blouses and cosy cardigans. But the items in her wardrobe I loved the most where her gorgeous winter coats and wool berets.
  2. Jo Stockton (Funny Face)
    Fictional Closet: Jo Stockton
You could argue Audrey Hepburn’s greatest on-screen wardrobe was that in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In contrast, I am more of a fan of her clothes in Funny Face. The movie is set during the beatnik era, and as such her wardrobe contains Capri trousers, boatneck tops and classic trench coats. In the storyline, Hepburn becomes a model in Paris and as a result models the most amazing outfits. The clothes were all designed by Givenchy and Edith Head. Who also designed the clothes in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
  3. Veronica (Veronica Mars Movie)
    Fictional Closet: Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars’ wardrobe in the television programme was very much that of a quirky, preppy student. However, I adored her more ‘grown-up’ look in the Veronica Mars movie. Her look is created by layering textured tops under a blazer. Paired with classic jeans and boots combination. I especially loved the draped neck top she wore to the club. However, the highlight of the movie was when she once again donned her leather jacket and studded camera bag from the television show. As you can imagine, I cannot wait for next year to see the new season and more of her amazing wardrobe.
  4. Clara Oswald (Doctor Who)
    Fictional Closet: Clara Oswald
Clara’s wardrobe is probably the closest to my own. We both wear floral or tartan dresses, with woolly tights and chunky boots. I even have the leather jacket and red satchel! Although our styles are similar, that doesn’t mean I don’t have total envy at her dress collection! As well as her everyday clothes, let’s not forget the beautiful period pieces she wore.  For example, the 1920’s beaded dress from Mummy’s on the Orient Express or the party dress from The Cold War episode.
  5. Villanelle (Killing Eve)
    Fictional Closet: Villanelle
I loved all of Villanelle’s outfits! The wrap dress she wore with white trainers. The blue summer dress and of course the stunning pink chiffon dress worn with biker boots. And I haven’t even mentioned her amazing outerwear! The Teddy Bear coat, embroidered bomber jacket and classic raincoat. All items I am looking to add to my wardrobe this autumn. Whilst I know it is not a good idea to raid a psychopath’s wardrobe, and certainly dreaming about doing it.

Which fictional characters’s closet do you want to raid?
Have you seen Killing Eve? Are you obsessed with Villanelle’s clothes?
Is it okay to have a psychopathic killer as a fashion icon?

The Geeky Girl Tag

I had seen The Geeky Girl Tag posted on a few blogs last year and I always intended to join in. Yet, for some reason, I never got around to filling in the questions. Last month Heather from Just Geeking By, posts a list of 10 Tags for Bloggers. So I figured I would use this as my cue to finally join in. (And, do a few more Blog Tags over this year). Zombie Goddess Beauty originally created The Geeky Girl Tag. If you haven’t already joined it. “Tag you are it!” The questions are at the end of the post.

The Geeky Girl Tag

1. What is your must-have tech gadget?
I guess the gadget I use the most is my iPhone, so I’m guessing that makes it my must-have gadget. Like most people, I use my phone to keep in touch with people, but never actually call anyone! I always text and use social media. I also use my phone to take photos, keep organised, listen to music and play games!

2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?
Ravenclaw. I took The Storing Hat Quiz on Pottermore test twice. The first time, I got Gryffinfor and I was unhappy with my results, I felt it was completely wrong. I have never considered myself brave or courageous. Although I have been called stubborn a lot. So I guess this could be mistaken for determination! The second time I took the test I was sorted into Ravenclaw, which I think is a much better fit. I also retook the Patronus test which changed from a bloodhound to a dolphin.

3. Who is your favourite Doctor?
It has to be Eleven (Matt Smith)! I love all the modern Doctors, and of course, I can’t wait to see Thirteen. But overall, I love the childish nature of Eleven. Similarly, I loved all the companions Eleven had, the Ponds, Craig and especially Clara.

4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?
It would have to be with a detective so I could pick their brain. With this in mind, my first choice was Sherlock Holmes. But thinking about it his social awkwardness wouldn’t make him a fun dinner guest. Then I thought Jessica Fletcher (I adore Murder She Wrote), but as most her dinner companions get murdered, or accused of murder I decided against that. Therefore, I am picking Batman! In fact, I would love to have dinner with the whole Bat-Family.

5. What is your gaming system of choice?
I prefer portable game systems. At the moment I play a lot of games on my iPad however, I do still love my old Nintendo 3DS, especially as  I love re-playing puzzle games like Professor Layton series.

6. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation. I thought about flying so I could see the world. But with teleportation, I could take people with me and more luggage when I travelled. Think of all the possibilities. You could pop to Japan to buy comics, teleport some friends to Disneyland for the day. Or spend the evening having dinner in Italy. Of course, I would also use my power for good like rescuing people from natural disasters.

7. What is your favourite fantasy world?
The Star Wars Universe. There are so many planets from Star Wars I would love to visit, such as Naboo or Mandalore. In reality, as I am a city girl at heart, ultimately, I think I would end up spending most of my time on Coruscant.

8. If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?
If you had asked me this last year, I would have been stumped. Jedi isn’t really a race and I’m not sure what race from Star Wars world I would have wanted to be part of. As you would expect since seeing Black Panther I now want to be a Wakandan!

9. Star Trek or Star Wars?
Star Wars all the way!

10. List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV Series.
Star Wars
Marvel Cinematic Universe (movies and TV shows)
Game of Thrones
Sherlock
Harry Potter

11. List your top 5 favourite video games.
The Professor Layton series
The Sims
Animal Crossing (I am loving the Pocket Camp iOS version)
Pokemon Go (I started playing again this summer and am loving it again).
Candy Crush Saga (sorry I have to include it, I’m addicted)

Afternoon Tea at Home

To celebrate Afternoon Tea Week, I thought I would put together a few products for you to have your own geeky afternoon tea at home. With the rise in popularity of afternoon tea, there are so many great products to chose from. Also as tea parties feature both Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast, there are some great tea related products based on these franchises available.

How to Host your own Afternoon Tea at Home with a Twist

Afternoon Tea at Home with a Twist!

Good Food has some great ideas for hosting your own afternoon tea at home, from decorating tips to what to serve. Pinterest is also a great place to search for geekier recipe ideas. In my Pinspiration series, I have featured Stranger Things cupcakesHulk cake pops and Captain America cookies. All of these be great for the pastry course of your afternoon tea. Alternatively, you can also look for a macaroon or mini pie recipes.Afternoon Tea at Home with a Twist

Milk Jug // Sugar Bowl // Cake Stand // Tea Cup
Tardis Teapot // Harry Potter Tea Set // R2-D2 Teapot
BB-8 Tea Set for One // Tea Infuser // Cake Stand

During an Afternoon Tea, cakes are served on a tiered cake stand.  Like the whimsical Alice in Wonderland cake stand from the V&A Museum. Yet, as I discovered when research quirkier teas in London. Hotels are getting more creative with their stands using old records and even books as serving boards. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative the Disney have some cute disposable tiered cake stands. Which come with matching disposable tablecloths and napkins.

The great thing about afternoon tea is there are no hard and fast rules. You could have a matching tea set like this Harry Potter one, or opt for a mismatch of china cups. Taking inspiration from the Mad Hatter’s tea party you could have an ill-sorted collection of plates and cups, and carry this even further with mismatched chairs.

How are you celebrating Afternoon Tea Week?
What themed Afternoon Tea would you like to have?

London Film and Comic Con 2018

London Film and Comic Con 2018The heatwave in London finally broke this weekend, with a day of epic rain. Jason and I originally, planned on having a quiet Sunday at home. Catching up on some financial work and binge-watching the new season of Orange is the New Black. However, on Sunday, a friend messaged us to say he was going to London Film and Comic Con (LFCC) and did we want to join him.

It had been a good few years since I had attended LFCC, last time we went it was still at the old Earl’s Court venue. I think it is probably four times larger than the first time we went over ten years ago. It is great to see LFCC grow in both size and popularity, and thriving at London’s Olympia.

Our friend D, is a huge Doctor Who fan. He booked himself in for several photo-shoots with previous Doctors. He explained to me, that seven of the living Doctors were at LFCC. In fact, as David Bradley played One in “Doctor Falls” episode fans also include him as a Doctor, it was actually eight. It was also the first time Christopher Eccleston had attended a signing convention! And the fans gave him a lot of love!

D always has does amazing cosplay! I knew he had previously cosplayed Doctors but had never seen them in person. I was so excited when I saw him dressed as Thirteen! But being D, he was unhappy with this coat and pointed out the faults. Even so, I couldn’t see them.

When we meet up with D, near the autograph signing area. We had a quick beer and catch up. Whilst chatting we shocked to see Peter Davidson walk past. Shortly followed by David Tennant, D and I completely geeked out, but none of us had a chance to take a photo!

As it was a last minute decision for us to attend LFCC, we opted not to do any photoshoot or autographs. However, we made a quick decision to attend the iZombie panel. Mainly, we were there to people watch, shop and soak up the atmosphere. As you would expect at a con, there were so many amazing cosplayers in action!

Funko Friday

The Funko I Want Most for Christmas

I have taken a break from Five Fandom Friday, as I don’t really have time to blog regularly during the holiday season. When I saw Funko Friday’s theme for today was The Funko I Want Most for Christmas, I thought I would join in.

I don’t really have a large Pop Vinyl collection, If I see one I love I buy it, so my wish list is mainly rare or limited edition figures I have seen online.

  1. “Metallic Black” Batgirl (SDCC 2010 Exclusive)
I can’t seem to find a photo of this version but I know it exists
I have the regular Batgirl Pop! Figure, along with the Dorbz and Mopeez ones. This metallic black version is closer to the costume from the comic. I am hoping they do a version with the purple and yellow costume from the Batgirl of Burnside comic.
  2. Unmasked Captain America (ToyMatrix.com Exclusive)
    Unmasked Capt America
There seems to be a lot more Marvel Funkos than DC (I am guessing this will change with the release of the films next year), there have been several Captain America figures – one for each film – but this unmasked version from The Winter Solider is my favourite – he just looks so “all American hero.”
  3. Black Widow with Shield (Gamestop Exclusive)
Black WidowAgain this is a variation of the Avengers: Age of Ultron figure, but this time with the shield, I adored the scene in the movie when Black Widow rides in to “pick up after the boys” and this figure reminds me of this scene.
  4. Director Coulson With Lola
    Coulson and Lola
This one isn’t really a limited edition figure – instead one of the “Ride” figures. Agent Coulson was one of the coolest characters in the MCU and in Agents of SHEILD he got cooler with the addiction of his flying car!
  5. Eleventh Doctor (Fez) (Hot Topic Exclusive)
    Doctor with Fez
Eleven will always be my favourite Doctor (I just adore Matt Smith), he is the guy who taught us Bow Ties were cool, he also saved the world whilst carrying a mop and wearing a fez (which is also cool).
