5FF: Most Anticipated Shows of 2023

I’m a TV addict, and to love sharing my lists of upcoming shows in the blog. As I watch loads of TV shows, it is often hard for me to limit these lists. Last year, I ended up writing one for each season. Seeing as this is for Five Fandom Friday, I’ll attempt to stick to just five shows. So I am putting a condition that I can only pick new TV programmes, no returning shows.

Five Fandom Friday: Five Most Anticipated Shows of 2023

1. Ahsoka (Disney+)

Of course, any list of anticipated shows I’m compiling would have to include a Star Wars programme. Since the launch of Disney+ in 2019, I have adored all the new content from a galaxy far, far away. The Star Wars show I am most looking forward to this year is Ahsoka. My favourite Star Wars animated series was Star Wars: Rebels, especially the episodes centred around the re-introduction of Ahsoka. As her stand-alone programme sounds like a live-action sequel to the cartoon, I can’t wait to see where this adventure goes.

2. Agatha: Coven of Chaos (Disney+)

As well as including a Star Wars TV programme, I had to include a TV show from Marvel Studios. It was hard for me to pick between the Agatha Harkness programme and the Ironheart one. As I loved both characters when I saw them on screen before. However, in the end, I picked Agatha: Coven of Chaos, as I am more interested in the witchy element of the MCU. Set after the events of WandaVision in the show, we will see Agatha trapped as Agnes still living in WestviewKathryn Hahn will reprise her role, the show also stars Aubrey Plaza and Joe Locke.

3. Rian Johnson’s Poker Face (Sky)

Knives Out and its sequel are amongst my favourite movies from recent years. Whilst I would love a TV show based around Benoit Blanc solving crimes. I am happy to see Rian Johnson making a murder-mystery programme. Poker Face is a Columbo-style comedy-drama featuring a different mystery each week. The show stars Natasha Lyonne from Orange is the New Black and Russian Doll, she will also direct the programme.

4. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (Netflix)

One of the most popular shows of recent years is Bridgerton, so a spin-off was inevitable. Queen Charlotte is a prequel centring around the young princess’ introduction to the London Ton and her relationship with the future king, George. The story is likely to focus the interracial accept of their relationship and the prejudices they encountered. The programme will also introduce us to younger versions of Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton.

5. Daisy Jones and the Six (Amazon Prime)

Last year, I read two Taylor Jenkins Reid novels, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six. Since then, I have hoped for an onscreen adaption of the books. Luckily I didn’t have to wait too long. Daisy Jones & The Six tells the story of the legendary rock band in the 1970s. Like the book, the TV show will be a series of interviews in a documentary-style programme. Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough will play the title-role character.
