If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you will know I have been re-watching all the MCU movies before the release of Avengers: Infinity War in April. But I wanted to do something special on the blog leading up to this cinematic event. So for the next few weeks, I am going to showcase some of my favourite “pins” from Pinterest based on a character from the MCU. Starting with my favourite Avenger, Captain America.
Pinspiration: Captain America
First up is the knitting pattern inspired by the Super Solider outfit by Linda J. Dunn from the Geek Knits book. As a knitter and Captain America fan, I added this tunic to my “Ravelry Queue” (like a To Read shelf in Goodreads) the moment I saw it. The problem is when would I wear it. All the Captian America and Avengers movies were released in the spring. And with the majority of cons in the summer, so there is no time I could wear this sweater.
These shield cookies look extremely complicated to make but are visually stunning. Luckily Rosie’s Dessert Spot has a simple instructional video with step by step directions. I am sure they are a lot tastier than Vibranium.
I love this geek chic outfit Jordandene put together on Polyvore. Based around her lovely Winter Solider Tank. Which features the classic quote from the Captain America sequel. For me, this is a perfect outfit for an autumnal day. I can imagine wearing this whilst walking along the Brooklyn Promenade with a cup of coffee in hand. Maybe grabbing a lobster roll at Luke’s in Dumbo or stopping to take photos of the iconic skyline.
I am obsessed with pinatas. They were not really a thing in the U.K. when I was growing up. So I didn’t discover the joy of a pinata until I was an adult. In fact, I insisted on having a wedding cake pinata at my wedding, just so I could join in. So the idea of making a Captain America themed pinata seems so much fun to me. In Maureen Wilkinson, she explains how she made a Captain America Sheild pinata for her son’s birthday party.
Next week is some of my favourite posts inspired by Thor, if you’d like to be featured in my future pinspiration post, please contact me.

For this months 6 on 6 as always I had to include a Tsum Tsum. Originally, I only planned to collect the Star Wars or Marvel versions. However when I saw the “Dory” version Disney released to conjunction with the release of Finding Dory, I had to change my mind.
When I posted my 6 on 6 photos for March, I mentioned I acquired a collection of Star Wars tins. This R2D2 version has moved around over the years. First it was in my bedroom for a while, holding odd buttons, then ear-rings and odd ear-ring backs. Now it is on my desk holding paperclips.
As you may know Batgirl is my favourite character. So I adore buying anything Batgirl themed (yes I own Batgirl knickers and pyjamas), the very first Pop Vinyl figure I brought was Batgirl. It is also my favourite Pop Vinyl. Shortly, after buying her I also brought the Dorbz and Mopeez versions.
Another blue cowl. I love Pez dispensers, but don’t really like the sweets. This year, I have found several stores are selling geeky Pez dispensers. So far I have brought a Darth Vader, Minion and several Marvel comic characters including this Captain America one.
As I Londoner I always carry around my trusty Oyster Card. (The contact-less payment system used on public transport in London). I know I could use Apple Pay or credit card, but I love my Oyster Card. Maybe one day they will offer Oyster Card Nails.
Finally, my beloved Team GB t-shirt (and scarf), which I had to include as the Rio 2016 Olympics started this weekend. I become obsessed with the Olympics in 2012. We were lucky enough to attend several sporting events and spend a lot of time in our fabulous city enjoying the extra events laid on. (You can read about my adventures during the London 2012 Olympics here.)
This Friday I’m going to talk about the five films that are released this summer that I’m most looking forward to. You might notice that several of these films are sequels to my comfort films from last week.
Normally I say don’t make a sequel to a classic movie, but the follow ups to Pixar’s greats like Toy Story have been amazing, so I have high hopes for this film. I’m looking forward to learning more about Dory – discovering how she learnt to speak whale and hopefully seeing her reunite with her family.
Everybody Wants Some
Technically, this isn’t a sequel but Richard Linklater has referred to this film as a spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused. I love Dazed and Confused, the plot set over one night, the script (Just Keep Living), and the cast (it’s one of the first films for both Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey). I’m hoping this film serves up a lot of the same.
Captain America: Civil War
It’s the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, A Captain America film, Steve and Bucky back together! Ant-Man joining the team, introducing Black Panther and Spiderman into the MCU – what is not to look forward to about this film!
I know Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn’t well received by the audiences and critics, and I’m trying not to judge this film based on the previous DC movie. Whilst I am a little concerned about seeing a new Joker (can anyone top Heath Ledger), that hasn’t stopped me adding it to the list!
ITV have a tendency to show the same films in the evenings, the Ocean’s Eleven films and the first three Bourne films, as result Jason and I have seen these movies several time and they have become guilty pleasures. Now we have Matt Damon back as Jason Bourne ready to bring down Treadstone.
I only joined 5 Fandom Friday last September, but the project had been running for 18 months before I joined – I had missed several topics I would have loved to write about. So I’m going to play “catch-up” this week and write about my five comfort films (a prompt from March 2015).
Although all these films are so different for my they are all well written and for me are the also the films I quote the most! I’m pretty sure anyone that has seen The Avengers has quoted a line from it – for me the whole of the script during the Battle of New York is quotable line after quotable line.
This is just like Budapest, huh? – Black Widow (The Avengers)
Which comfort films I watch really depends on my mood – if I was something short and sweet it’s The Goonies, for a general feeling good film it Breakfast at Tiffany’s. All of these films I have watched again and again, they make me happy or cry – the opening scene in Finding Nemo always sets me off.
If I’m feeling blue I will have a movie marathon watching these (or the Original Star Wars trilogy) and if I have a mean case of the reds “I jump in a cab and go to Tiffany’s!”
I recently upgraded my camera to a DSLR, the day it arrived I started taking photos of everything around my bed, the first thing I photographed was my Captain Phasma figure – she has since become my model for playing with new techniques or lenses.
When I posted my 6 on 6 photos in January (white), I mentioned I could post a photo of Converse shoes every month – these are my newest pair and the first pair that have ever given me a blister!
I tend to use this glitter nail polish for a faux accent nail or over the holiday period for some festive sparkle to my nails – but I couldn’t resist doing the “painted nails and nail bottle in hand” shot.
One of my non-geeky collections is this accidental collection of State Quarters from America, I have 39 of the 50 collected over several trips to the States. Hawaii is the State I most want to visit, The Connecticut coin is my favourite and New York is the last place I visited across the pond.
The obvious thing for me to photo with a silver theme is jewellery. I fell in love with this necklace when I saw it online as it’s the same as one Black Widow wears in a Winter Solider, unfortunately, it was sold out – but my darling husband phoned around stores in England and managed to track down for as a gift for me.
I have several charm bracelets, to me they help express my personality on my wrist, most of these have been gifts. My newest charm is the BB-8 one, the Nemo is to express my infertility (Nemo was the only good egg) and the pumpkin for my birthday at Halloween.
My friend M has numerous amazing Star Wars tattoos done by some amazing tattoo artists, when he mentioned one of the artists, Adam Guy Hays would be at the London Tattoo convention, I jumped at the chance to get inked. Due to limited time, we had to opt for smaller tattoos and each picked on of the “symbols” from Star Wars. I had the rebel alliance symbol on left foot below my ankle. The following year, Adam returned to London and I completed the set with the Empire symbol on my right foot.
Another Star Wars Tattoo
For my next tattoo, I am hoping for another Star Wars tattoo, hopefully at Star Wars Celebration this summer. Ideally I would love an X-Wing, especially Poe’s new black ship.
Cross Stitch Shield
I am completely in love with this tattoo! I am awful at cross stitching (I always end up with tons of knots at the back of my work), but the combination of craftiness and geekiness of this tattoo, just makes me adore it. Shame the artist is based in Turkey.
Finally, I would love a classic yellow and black Batman logo!
I have taken a break from Five Fandom Friday, as I don’t really have time to blog regularly during the holiday season. When I saw Funko Friday’s theme for today was The Funko I Want Most for Christmas, I thought I would join in.
I don’t really have a large Pop Vinyl collection, If I see one I love I buy it, so my wish list is mainly rare or limited edition figures I have seen online.
“Metallic Black” Batgirl (SDCC 2010 Exclusive) I can’t seem to find a photo of this version but I know it exists
I have the regular Batgirl Pop! Figure, along with the Dorbz and Mopeez ones. This metallic black version is closer to the costume from the comic. I am hoping they do a version with the purple and yellow costume from the Batgirl of Burnside comic.
Unmasked Captain America (ToyMatrix.com Exclusive)
There seems to be a lot more Marvel Funkos than DC (I am guessing this will change with the release of the films next year), there have been several Captain America figures – one for each film – but this unmasked version from The Winter Solider is my favourite – he just looks so “all American hero.”
Black Widow with Shield (Gamestop Exclusive) Again this is a variation of the Avengers: Age of Ultron figure, but this time with the shield, I adored the scene in the movie when Black Widow rides in to “pick up after the boys” and this figure reminds me of this scene.
Director Coulson With Lola This one isn’t really a limited edition figure – instead one of the “Ride” figures. Agent Coulson was one of the coolest characters in the MCU and in Agents of SHEILD he got cooler with the addiction of his flying car!
Eleventh Doctor (Fez) (Hot Topic Exclusive) Eleven will always be my favourite Doctor (I just adore Matt Smith), he is the guy who taught us Bow Ties were cool, he also saved the world whilst carrying a mop and wearing a fez (which is also cool).
Jason and I have often had silly conversations about any future zombie attacks, I figured my knitting needles would make excellent stakes and he wants a crossbow. I’ve not included Jason on this list because I’m assuming if I survived the apocalypse he did too.
Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) – As we have no idea what kind of apocalypse this will be, everyone on my list has been picked for their different skills dealing with different type of doom. In the case of a Vampire/Demon attack I would want the ultimate vampire slayer, Buffy!
Daryl Dixon (The Walking Dead) – In the case of a zombie attack, it would have to be the zombie killing bad-ass from The Walking Dead. Like a modern day lone rider (with a motorcycle instead of a horse), this poncho wearing hero has plenty of experience fighting zombies.
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) – I figured I would need a magician in case we had to deal with mystical attacks. When it came to picking a sorceror, I wanted someone with amazing skills and as Professor Lupin said about Hermione, “You’re the cleverest witch of your age.”
Bruce Banner (Marvel) – Next I thought I would need a great scientist, having thought hard about the “squint” I would want on my team, I realised Bruce Banner was perfect because he is really a BOGOF (buy one get one free) deal, not only do I get the scientist I also get the Hulk!
Captain America (Marvel) – Finally, this team will need a leader, the super soldier with experience in fighting in both a war and apocalypse. I think Steve Rogers would be the ideal leader as he has dealt with HYDRA, aliens and killer robots. Plus he might have access to Veronica in case Hulk got out of hand ;).
