Autumn Tag

I love blog tags! They are a great way to get to know your blogger friends better. One of my favourite tags was the Christmas tag from a few years ago. I loved reading about fellow blogger’s traditions.
That’s why I love this Autumn Tag. As autumn is my favourite time of year, I love reading about other people’s traditions.

I discovered this cute Autumn Tag on Chronical Sunflower’s blog. It was originally designed by Ellduclos to kick-start her ‘Blogtober’ series. As always the questions are at the end of the post if you want to play along.

The Autumn Tag

Autumn Tag

  1. What is one candle you MUST light every Autumn?
I always loved the Candy Corn candles from Yankee Candle. However, it seems to have been discontinued this year. Being replaced by Sweet Seduction. I am not too keen on the smell but love the new ceramic jar! Instead this year, I brought several Pumpkin Spice home fragrances in TK Maxx. Including pretty jam-jar candle and reed diffuser.
  2. When you think of Autumn, what does it remind you of?
Whilst, most people might think about colder weather, falling leaves and cosy nights in! For me Autumn means Birthdays! My birthday is on Halloween and my husband’s birthday is two weeks later. So when the leaves start changing colour, I start planning celebratory nights out. And shopping for birthday presents.
  3. What is your all-time favourite Autumn/Halloween movie?
I don’t really have a favourite autumn movie. However, we tend to watch a lot of box sets in the autumn. This year I am thinking of re-watching Gilmore Girls or Once Upon a Time. And dreaming about New England in the autumn!
  4. What Halloween costume do you have in mind?
As I said it’s my birthday on Halloween, so I never get dressed up! We tend to have a meal or drinks somewhere. So I plan a date night outfit, rather than a costume. Saying that, with MCM London, the weekend before Halloween. I am planning a little geeky Halloween outfit to wear then.
  5. What is your favourite Autumn trend?
At the risk of sounding basic, I love PSL! I have written before about some of my favourite Pumpkin recipes. As I said I have brought pumpkin spiced candles this year. Autumn is all about the Pumpkin Spice!
  6. When you think of Autumn, what drink comes to mind?
Obviously, for me, it has to be PSL. However, saying that I am attempting to try some other autumnal drinks from different coffee shops this year. You can follow my efforts on Instagram.
  7. What is your go-to Autumn beauty product? A must-have staple!
I am not a beauty blogger or a make-up addict. But when the weather gets colder, I reach for my favourite lip balm and moisturiser. Currently, my favourite lip balm is Marc Jacobs’ Lip Lock.
  8. Do you prefer apple pie or pumpkin pie?
I am not a huge fan of pies! Plus I hate cooked apples. So I am going to say Pumpkin Cheesecake!
  9. Do you have any Autumn traditions? If so tell us all about it!
Autumn officially starts once I have had my first PSL! Once the weather gets cooler, I dig out all my favourite cosy knitwear! In October, we start decorating the house with pumpkins, autumnal candles and fake coloured leaves. Towards the end of the month, Halloween decorations get added. Then it is birthday season! This normally involves a Jason and I having a nice meal, drinks with friends and a Sunday dinner with family.
  10. The moment of truth, is Autumn your favourite season?
    Yes!

Note: I have changed some of the words into British English e.g. using Autumn instead of Fall and adding a ‘u’ into the word favourite. For the Americanised version see Ellduclos‘ original post.

100 Cups of Coffee

When uploading these photos for the #100cupsofcoffee project to Instagram, I messed up the numbering. So I have added these in the order they happened, which doesn’t tally with the little number icons.

Coffee & A Great Read #100cupsofcoffee

As I mentioned in my last 100 cups of coffee update, whilst in the Philippines. I use to pop to Starbucks every afternoon for 4 p.m. caffeine fix. All the travelling I did in October, gave me the ideal time to catch up with my reading. Ideal for travelling was The Good Immigrant, as the short essays where easy to dip into whilst waiting to board a plane or riding on a shuttle bus.

Breakfast Coffee #100cupsofcoffee
In Manila and Gibraltar, the cafes we used to have breakfast in served coffee in tiny cups. In London I have a large mug or “venti” cup with my breakfast. As a result I found in Manila, I needed several cups each morning to get my coffee buzz!

Fall 2016! #100cupsofcoffee
When I returned home in London, autumn was definitely here! My uniform for the Fall Season in 2016, became my “Her Universe” bomber jacket and a Pumpkin Spiced Latte!

Coffee & A Movie #100cupsofcoffee
At the end of October we were lucky enough to get tickets to the Doctor Strange Fan Screening in Leicester Square. Before the screening of the movie, the director and movie’s cast (including Benedict Cumberbatch.) did a short introduction.

Final PSL of the Season #100cupsofcoffee
When I discovered my local Starbucks had run out of Pumpkin Spice syrup at the before the end of October. It meant I didn’t get a P.S.L. on my birthday! So when I discovered another branch still had syrup in November. I took the opportunity to enjoy my last P.S.L. of the season.

100 Cups of Coffee

Cold Brew & Bake OffSeptember means the new autumn television schedule and an important part of that use to be The Great British Bake Off. To mark the start of the seventh series, and continuing our little tradition. We popped to our favourite bakery, The Outsider Tart to buy cake for our viewing party.

PSF

For the first time this year Starbucks released Pumpkin Spiced Lattes at the beginning of September, instead of the end of the month. The release of the drink happened to coincided with one of the hottest weeks of the summer. So I took the chance to try a Pumpkin Spiced Frappacino. I was not convinced by this cold version of my favourite drink.

PSL

With the British weather being as unpredictable as it is. A few days later we had grey and rainy skies. This was the perfect weather for an autumnal walk along the river whilst drinking a Pumpkin Spiced Latte.Spanish Coffee

When I went to visit Jason in Gibraltar, we would visit a cute café around the back of his apartment for breakfast. It was on the corner of the mini square, and the ideal spot to people watch whilst eating. It also seemed right to have this photo in black and white, for that artistic European feel. Same Coffee
The next stop on Jason’s overseas working tour was the Philippines. Next door to his apartment here was a Starbucks. So every afternoon, just like at home I would pop downstairs for my afternoon pick me up. They didn’t serve PSL here, but did have traditional lattes and had an amazing range of teas.

Currently… September Edition

currently september

Currently Feeling… Lonely! Jason is working abroad for the next few weeks and I am not used to him being away from home. It does mean I got to spend the weekend in Gibraltar – hence why this post was late.

Currently Loving…  This month I seems to be a little obsessed with Riz Ahmed, we have loved his TV programme, I’m reading his book and we even re-watched Four Lions. Let’s not forget he is also going to be in Rogue One. He really is the breakout star of this year.

Currently Reading… The Good Immigrant edited Nikesh Shukla. This book is a collection of short stories by immigrants talking about their experiencing living in Great Britain. You can read an extract of Riz Ahmed’s story here.

Currently Watching… After watching the first episode of The Night Of on Sky. We then watched the entire box set in a weekend.

Currently Drinking… PSL! September means just one thing, Pumpkin Spice Lattes!

100 Cups of Coffee

I’m extremely behind writing up about my 100 cups of coffee project, most of these coffees were back in October.

Coffee & Knitting
Ling was testing out a new base yarn for her Whimzy yarn collection and asked me if I would knit her up a sample for a knitting show in November. I picked a really simple pattern which I managed to knit up in several afternoons – all fuelled by lots of coffee.

Outsider Tart Coffee

For the final episode of The Great British Bake-Off (that seems so long ago), we continued our tradition of having cakes whilst watching TV, once again I was too busy to bake so I popped to the local American bakery for some brownies and cheesecake. They have this amazing counter – which is extremely instagrammable.

People watching

Most the time I have coffee whilst working or when out with friends, but occasionally, I have a coffee on my own. Then I like to sit in Starbucks on an autumn afternoon with a pumpkin spiced latte and people watch.

Gingerbread Latte

One of the great things about having the Starbucks app is early access to the “Holiday” drinks, this was my first gingerbread latte of the season – before the red cup became so newsworthy. Normally I don’t like cream on my drinks – but the new gingerbread cream was amazing!

Last PSL

Red cup season also marks the end of pumpkin spice latte season ☹️, time for me to put away my pumpkin cozy for another year. BTW, I am slowly adding these cozies to my Folksy store.

100 Cups of Coffee

No 6

On Wednesday night, we have a little tradition of drinking tea and eating cakes whilst watching Great British Bake Off. I was busy with meeting on Wednesday and didn’t have time to bake, but as my meeting was a few stops away from Baker Street, I thought I would check out the Dunkin’ Donuts to see if they sold PSL’s (they don’t in the UK), so I had to settle for a regular coffee and half-dozen doughnuts for our evening treat.

We have a lot of friends and family birthdays in October and November (over a dozen), the problem is by the beginning of October all card shops stock are Christmas Cards, which is annoying when you are trying to find a decent 40th birthday card for your husband among shelves full of santa and reindeer. When I noticed empty shelves in a card store I figured, I would get a head start this year and bulk buy my cards for the next few months. Feeling chuffed I popped into Caffe Nero for a hazelnut latte (that was extremely sweet) but they did have these amazing cups to promote the Britain on Film project, featuring still from old films set in Britain.

Kalita Coffee

I mentioned before starting this project that I was going to use it as an excuse to explore more coffee shops from The London Coffee App, I’m lucky that I have two shops from the list within walking distance from our home. Admittedly one is a lot closer to home, but the other is handy if I need to run errands. As I had to pop to the bank and it was National Coffee Day, I thought it was a good excuse to celebrate and try something new, this Kalita (Slow Brew) coffee.

Coffee & Sewing

I blogged about my fun sewing day with friends when I attempted to make a Star Wars themed project bag, As I was trying to concentrate I needed caffeine to fuel the little grey cells.

Morning Coffee

During October I am participating in the #5FFPhoto Challenge on Instagram, I have run my own knitting themed photo challenge before and am sad to admit I didn’t complete that challenge. I thought I would do better this time (as I have been using Instagram more now), but on the second day I forgot to take a photo, so quickly had to take a quick snap of my coffee the next morning. (So quick I forgot to add my number sticker).

#100cupsofcoffee is a chance for me to blog about my experiences whilst drinking coffee around London and give you an insight into my daily life. You can read about the origins of the project here.

Five Fandom Friday

5 Pumpkin Items Cannot Wait To Purchase

5 Pumpkin Items Cannot Wait To Purchase
  1. PSL – It will come as no surprise to readers of the blog that the first thing I love to buy when autumn rolls around is a Pumpkin Spice Latte! In fact autumn hasn’t truly arrived until I have had my first sip.
  2. Pumpkin Puree – Autumn is a great time to get baking, I have already shared some of the recipes I want to try this year. The one thing I need for all this baking is Libby’s Pumpkin Puree!
  3. Pumpkin Candles – As I mentioned in the last Fandom Friday, when visiting the States in the autumn my first stop is Starbucks for a PSL, my second is Bath and Body Works to stock up on scented candles, bubble bath, shower gel and antibac. Seeing as we aren’t going to America this year, I am looking for a substitute pumpkin candle – until I find one I will make do with the Infamous Boyfriend Candle.
  4. Philosophy Pumpkin Icing Shower Gel – My search for autumnal scented products did uncover Philosophy’s Pumpkin Icing Shower Gel, I have used their Pumpkin Pie variety before – and it’s amazing for adding a quick burst of autumn into my morning routine.
  5. Pumpkin Spice Latte M&Ms – I adore M&Ms so of course I was over the moon when I read about these limited edition PSL version. Unfortunately, they are not available in the UK (not even in a M&M World Store), but some quick stalking of some US stores online have produced some leads.
    Edit: Amazon have them.

100 Cups of Coffee

#100cupsofcoffee No.1

After saying I didn’t want to include photos of my coffee mug at home in this project, I broke the rule on the first day! I had cleared my schedule for the day to read the Star Wars prequel book on the day it was released in the UK, so I started the day in bed reading a few chapters with my morning coffee.

In Pho Cafe.
My second coffee was also a little unconventional. Pho Cafe has recently become my to-go place for lunch – there is something nice about a bowl of spicy noodles on a colder day. Normally I finish my meal with a Vietnamese coffee (with the condensed milk), but as we went on Saturday and I didn’t have to worry about working in the afternoon, this time I thought I would try their Cà Phê Martini (made with clear rice spirit instead of vodka).

PSL
Last week was pretty miserable weather wise here in London, loads of rain and the temperatures were definitely dropping, twice this week I nearly got caught in a heavy downpour, first whilst out to lunch with friends and the second time when I popped to the shops. This time to avoid more rain I ducked into Starbucks to celebrate the start of autumn with a PSL.

Coffee & Ice Cream

On Friday, I had an afternoon to myself so went to Covent Garden, for my monthly comic book buying trip to Forbidden Planet. It was the first time since Force Friday I’d been in the store and was completely taken back by all the new Star Wars merchandise – I could have easily spend a small fortune, but I refrained and instead popped into Vico a new Italian canteen nearby for coffee and ice cream. I wanted the pumpkin ice cream but after a quick taster I changed my mind (it tasted more like butternut squash soup) and instead had a “snickers” ice cream.

Coffee Date

Oddly, Jason doesn’t drink coffee, whilst one of my favourite things is popping out for coffee he often complains that “no coffee house do decent tea” or “they serve tea in tiny little cups!” As a result, a coffee date is a rare occasion for us, as we were free on Sunday, we had an impromptu date to Starbuck and he ordered drink a Venti tea with two tea bags (and didn’t complain) and I had yet another PSL.

5 Favourite Things About Autumn

fandom_friday

  1. Pumpkins – I have mentioned before how I love going to the pumpkin patch at the beginning of October to buy decorations for the house, I also stock up on canned pumpkin purée for cooking. I hate pumpkin pie, but love experimenting with other recipes, cheesecake, muffins and cupcakes. This year I want to try to make pumpkin pancakes.
  2. PSL– following on from loving pumpkin flavours food, I am obsessed with Pumpkin Spice Latte’s. Oddly the drink has only been available in the Starbucks in UK for the last three years, before that I had to order the syrup online or binge drink them when we were on vacation in America. When we went to Las Vegas I even brought I drink at the airport before collecting my suitcase from the carousel.
    Finished Gretel
  3. Berets – autumn is all about layers, I do love scarves and chunky cardigans, but for me autumn is all about the beret. Every year I like to knit myself a new hat (normally a beret) in the new colour of the season. This weekend I will take my hats out of storage (I put them away over the summer in a box with lavender bags) ready for the colder months.
  4. Birthdays – Yes I know you can have a birthday at anytime of year but both my husband and I celebrate our birthdays during the autumn, just a few weeks apart. This means that from the end of October to mid-November our calendar is filled with outings for our birthdays. Over the last few years we have both celebrated big birthdays so this has involved a vacation, but normally its a few meals, maybe an afternoon tea and lots of cocktails!
    Halloween Afternoon Tea
  5. My birthday actually falls on Halloween (my final favourite thing about autumn), this means that a lot of activities around my birthday have a Halloween theme – which I love! It also gives me an excuse to decorate the house in Halloween/birthday hybrid of decorations!

100 Cups of Coffee

100 Cups of Coffee

The Nerdy Girlie created a fun project on Instagram where she shares her 100 cups of coffee, inspired by the Futurama episode where Fry attempts to drink 100 coffees in a 24 hour period. I have loved seeing her photos (and the other people taking part in the project), and now am desperate to try a Salted Caramel Cold Brew and eat pie at Republic of Pie!

Piccolo Latte.

I am terribly boring when it comes to coffee, I normally have a cup in morning whilst reading the news, and a second cup in the afternoon whilst working. If I haven’t been out during the day I will pop to my local coffee shop or bakery – if I think I deserve a treat too.

This does change in the autumn, when I venture to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spiced Latte and then before Christmas this will change to Gingerbread Lattes – I do love it when it’s Red Cup season!

Breakfast Coffee

This would make for a really boring project, I have several mugs but tend to use the same “Goonies” one, my desk is messy and un-photogenic and there is only so many photos of disposable coffee cups one can take. So I am going to add some rules to my version of the project.

London has numerous coffee shops – I even downloaded the London Coffee Guide app, hoping to explore check some of them out, but have yet too, Last winter, several new bakeries opened up in my area, but I still pop to the same one, but always think I should be more adventurous. So instead of posting every cup of coffee I drink, just the ones whilst out exploring, trying a new type of coffee or maybe when something amazing happens when drinking my coffee.

Is there somewhere in London you think I should check out? What’s you favourite coffee? Comment below. You can see all the photos from the #100cupsofcoffee project on Instagram.
